Fox Sports’ NFL coverage is losing a fan favourite.

Joe Davis, one of the network’s top announcers, won’t be in the booth at NFL games for the next few weeks.

Davis often calls games with three-time Pro Bowler Greg Olsen, with the pair considered Fox’s No.2 duo.

Olsen used to be Fox’s No.1 announcer, but the arrival of Tom Brady, who signed a $375 million contract with the broadcaster, saw his role change.

Why is Davis not covering NFL games?

Davis will still be working for Fox, shifting to its coverage of the MLB playoffs for at least the next month, before a return to NFL games.

The 37-year-old is considered the network’s lead play-by-play announcer for baseball.

Davis’ Fox bio confirms his involvement in the MLB.

“Prior to assuming the lead role, Davis called select [MLB] regular season matchups for the network,” it reads.

“He has been in the booth for FOX Sports’ Division Series coverage since 2017 and called a Championship Series game alongside Smoltz during the 2019 and 2020 MLB Postseasons, respectively.

“The highly revered announcer is also the television voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers.”

Davis and Olsen last covered an NFL game together in Week 4 for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ thrilling win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Olsen will be at MetLife Stadium for the Dallas Cowboys clash with the New York Jets, but without Davis. Jason Benetti will handle the play– by-play duties.

Joe Davis and Greg Olsen controversy

While Davis and Olsen are certainly highly rated, the pair once faced intense backlash for their coverage of the Washington Commanders’ thrilling 36-33 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in December last year.

In that game, Jayden Daniels threw a game-winning touchdown to Jamison Crowder with six seconds left.

Davis screamed “Preposterous” in reaction, suggesting it was a huge upset.

However, Eagles fans disagreed online, arguing that the Commanders had the advantage since their backup quarterback, Kenny Pickett, played most of the game with Jalen Hurts out with a concussion.

“The worst part about watching today’s loss was having to listen to the commentators Greg Olsen and Joe Davis for 3 straight hours,” one fan wrote on X.

“‘It’s preposterous?’ Somebody wake up Joe Davis,” one user posted.

“I was just disgusted by him. Birds lost its happens. But his commentary was so bad. Just trash,” another fan wrote.

“He was horrible today….Never once considered how the game would have been different if Hurts didn’t get hurt….,” one fan commented.

“Joe Davis is great, but he keeps absolutely ignoring that Jalen Hurts hasn’t played since the first quarter. This isn’t this ‘preposterous’ comeback he thinks it is. Things change when the star QB is out, what a shocker!” one user wrote.
