COMING Home, the BBC’s documentary about Ozzy Osbourne’s final years was meant to come out in mid-August.
The BBC found themselves under scrutiny after announcing an early release date for the doc.
Sharon and Ozzy’s BBC doc is airing tonightBBCThe channel did a quick U-turn and assured viewers they would delay the release.
Why was Ozzy Osbourne’s BBC documentary pulled from the air?
Ultimately, the documentary is being pushed back following a strong reaction from the Osbourne family.
Ozzy’s family were said to be furious that the release of the BBC film seemed to be rushed.
The family’s response was especially strained because of the comparative patience of Paramount+‘s making of a different Ozzy doc – No Escape From Now.
The BBC announced plans to completely shelf their project after the Osbourne’s negative response.
However, after Paramount+ confirmed their release date to be October 7 the BBC put out a statement that Coming Home would be put out 5 days prior to the other documentary.
Ozzy Osbourne’s doc was pulled to respect the family’s wishesBBCThe BBC maintains the change actually took place the previous day.
A TV insider said: “This feels like a return to the ‘race’ to see who can get their docs on air first – and that’s something the Osbourne family didn’t want.
“The tension between the two creative teams working to get these shows out is immense, and it’s just hoped that this won’t cause too much upset to Ozzy’s loved ones.
“Hopefully the fact that both of them air in practically the same week will ensure that the first week of next month just becomes one big TV celebration of the rockers’ life.”
The Osbourne family will be more sensitive to portrayals of Osbourne at the moment because of his recent passing.
He passed away July 22 of this year from a cardiac arrest.
The rocker re-joined his Black Sabbath bandmates for one last gig just weeks before his death.
He had only wrapped up his farewell show, Back To The Beginning, a few weeks prior to his death.
There was a farewell gig in Ozzy’s honour, featuring artists Metallica, and Yungblud which grossed just shy of $200 million.
It is the highest ever grossing charity gig.
All proceeds of the event were donated across three charities – Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Acorn’s Children’s Hospice, and Cure Parkinsons.
Parkinsons was an illness Ozzy suffered from for years.
