Wake me up from this fever dream — I just read Alex’s Josh Giddey update. This is exactly the kind of news that makes me feel like the Bulls won’t be winning anytime soon. Tonight, I have a chance to be proven wrong with a game day at the United Center. Is it time for me to embrace the tank and buy myself some AJ Dybantsa merch?
Let’s talk Bulls basketball.
Two nights ago, the Bulls played the Timberwolves and dropped their second straight game. It was a blowout loss that also saw them lose their starting backcourt. Coby White went out in the first half, and Giddey left in the second. Yesterday we got an initial update on both, but the bad news crept in later.Josh Giddey exited tonight's game following this play: pic.twitter.com/sxRrraNuHe
— Bulls on CHSN (@CHSN_Bulls) December 30, 2025 Initially, it was announced that both White and Giddey would be out tonight for the game against the Pelicans. K.C. Johnson reported that both players picked up “tightness,” not a “strain,” in their respective injuries. That usually means it’s a day-to-day thing and not a multi-week absence. As of today, that’s still the case for Coby White, who will be out with right calf tightness.Bulls list Coby White out vs. Pelicans with right calf tightness. One small positive: It’s not listed as right calf strain. Josh Giddey and Zach Collins also out. Giddey is listed with left hamstring tightness—-also not a strain.
— K.C. Johnson (@KCJHoop) December 30, 2025 The later update on Giddey was brutal. Whenever the word “weeks” is used… not ideal. Giddey was having a breakout year, averaging a near triple-double: 19.2 points, 9 assists, and 8.9 rebounds per game and was on track to make his first All-Star appearance. We were hoping he would maybe even sneak onto an All-NBA team. However, depending on how long he’s out, he could fall short of the 65-game threshold required to reach those accomplishments. With both White and Giddey out, the Bulls will rely on Ayo Dosunmu and Tre Jones play heavy minutes. This could be a blessing in disguise, because we’ve seen both of them, at times, play better than the starters. It also forces Billy Donovan to explore more lineups and develop his young talent. Maybe when Giddey does return, he’ll have more to work with. There's fast and then there's Ayo Dosunmu fast ⚡@AyoDos_11 | @CHSN__ pic.twitter.com/8LE78fby3J

— BASKETBALL NEWS AUSTRALIA ?? (@AusBballnews) December 27, 2025 Josh wasn’t the only triple-double machine to catch the injury bug. Three-time MVP Nikola Jokić was diagnosed with a hyperextension in his left knee and is set to miss at least four weeks before he’s evaluated again. This is actually better news than it looks on paper, because Jokić could have had it way worse. Speedy recovery for both Jokić and Giddey!Just in: Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokic has been diagnosed with a hyperextension in his left knee and will miss at least four weeks. An immense sigh of relief as tests show the three-time NBA MVP's knee ligaments are intact. pic.twitter.com/u8qLE0GDd3
— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) December 30, 2025 On a lighter note around the league, it’s time to put on my party hat, because there were a couple of birthdays around the league yesterday. The one that grabbed all the headlines was LeBron James turning 41. The OG had to work on his birthday, playing the Detroit Pistons on national TV. The Lakers lost, and LeBron finished with 17 points, four rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block.Luka ? — NBA (@NBA) December 31, 2025 Another name on the birthday cake was Bulls rookie Lachlan Olbrich, who just turned 22 years old. With all the injuries Chicago has sustained, the Aussie may be gifted some extra minutes — and a chance to shine.
