The Syrian Foreign Ministry on Monday condemned “offensive chants” against Egypt by certain individuals on the sidelines of a solidarity rally for the Palestinian people held in Damascus.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the ministry said in a statement: “Some social media platforms circulated a video clip showing a limited number of individuals chanting offensive chants on the sidelines of what was said to be a solidarity rally with the brotherly Palestinian people in Gaza.”
“Such reprehensible actions do not at all reflect the feelings of the Syrian people toward the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt, its leadership and people, and represent only those who perpetrated them,” it added.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry said that it expresses “Its regret that some have exploited this isolated incident in an attempt to undermine the deep and solid fraternal relations between Syria and Egypt.”
The ministry reiterated its “Great appreciation and respect for sisterly Egypt and its generous people, who have hosted hundreds of thousands of Syrians over the past years.”
It further stressed the Syrian Arab Republic’s commitment to strengthening and adhering to Syrian-Egyptian relations, and its categorical rejection of any attempts to harm them.
