More Awards For Caleb Williams, Raiders’ Struggles vs. QBs, NFC North News, and Other Bears Bullets ...Middle East

As much as I love summer, I’m ready to fully flip into fall. Sure, my excitement for autumn is rooted in following the Chicago Bears, the rest of the NFL, and college football. But there is something I enjoy about discarding and donating old summer clothes this time of year. Out with the old, in with the new.

What a week it has been for Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. He helped Head Coach Ben Johnson get his first win, fed the city, and won the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week award. The hardware continues to roll in for Chicago’s QB1, who was voted the FedEx Air Player of the Week:

— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) September 24, 2025 This is Williams’ second such award, winning it last year as a rookie after his aerial assault on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Way to get out to vote, Bears fans. I am proud of your support of your favorite team’s starting quarterback. In theory, Caleb could be in the running for the award again if he handles business against the Las Vegas Raiders. Then again, going on the road and winning is hard enough. So maybe let that be the focus instead of any individual awards or accomplishments. WIth that being said, if Caleb Williams is truly making strides in his development, then a big game should be on the horizon for him. Fun fact: The Bears have won consecutive games vs. the Raiders and three of four in the series. As a fun bonus to the fun fact: The most recent Chicago QB to beat the Raiders was Tyson Bagent. (Photo by Todd Rosenberg/Getty Images) The stat line for quarterbacks playing vs. the Raiders defense this year is worth sharing: 67/94 (71.3%), 711 yards (7.56 yards/attempt), 4 TD (4.3 TD%), 1 INT (1.1 INT%), and a 102.7 passer rating. Even with those numbers being what they are, the Bears still need to be worried about what Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby can do to wreck things. Only four players have more sacks than Crosby’s 61.5 since 2019 when he entered the league. The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain has more about an offensive line that gave up no sacks and allowed just one quarterback hit against the Cowboys in Week 3. For what it’s worth, Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson alluded to it in the offseason and has mentioned this week how it takes time for new offensive lines to gel. One quality outing in three games isn’t going to lead me to declare that this group is a finished product, but the step in the right direction gives me hope that it can happen. — Bleacher Nation Fantasy (@BN_Fantasy_) September 25, 2025 The Sunday Night Football showdown between the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys is going to be a certified hate-watch. There is no love lost between Bears fans and the Packers. And with the Cowboys giving star pass-rusher Micah Parsons to the Bears’ biggest rival (and for pennies on the dollar!) before the season began, I have a growing distaste for the so-called America’s Team. With that being said, I enjoyed reading about how excited former Packers defensive tackle Kenny Clark is to sack former teammate Jordan Love:

“Yeah, you get to hit now,” Clark said via the team’s official website. “I’m excited, bro. I’m excited. It’s been a long time coming, and it’s definitely something I’ve been thinking about since I got traded here. I’m excited to go.”

It doesn’t sound like the Minnesota Vikings are in any rush to get J.J. McCarthy back in the lineup, especially with Head Coach Kevin O’Connell gushing about the value of letting the young QB watch veteran Carson Wentz from the bench. “Sometimes, it’s the reactionary ability to still consistently play with the rhythm and the poise and the decision-making, and all that becomes much easier when you’re taking the right footwork and you’re balanced throughout the drop and reading with your feet,” O’Connell said, via ESPN. “That can be an incredible weapon for a quarterback, whether they’ve played 20 years or they’ve played two games.” Is it just me, or is it weird that the Vikings head coach has dismissed the idea that J.J. McCarthy is getting the soft benching treatment while espousing the value of a soft benching? Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio points out that the changes in how Nielsen’s calculates viewership coincide with the NFL’s numbers booming. The latest evidence comes from the Week 3 MNF showdown between the Lions and Ravens, which averaged 22.8 million viewers. I’ll be curious to see the Monday Night Football numbers when the Bears face the Commanders in Week 6.
