The Iowa Cubs closed out their season with another loss, this time 7-2 at the hands of the Toledo Mud Hens. Sunday’s defeat gave them eight losses in their final nine games to close out the campaign.
This contest was scoreless through two innings, but the Mud Hens broke things open in the third and fourth innings, scoring three runs in each frame. All six runs came off Will Sanders, though only three of them were earned. A Parker Chavers error in center field with two outs in the fourth led to the three runs in that inning being unearned.
Ben Brown came on in the sixth for the Cubs and was sharp. He tossed two scoreless frames, allowing no runs and a hit, issuing a walk, and striking out three.
Iowa finally got on the board in the seventh inning. With two outs and runners on the corners, Ed Howard ripped a double to center field, clearing the bases and cutting the Toledo lead to 6-2. That’s where the scoring ended for Iowa, though, and they went on to fall 7-2.
