Three members of the Syrian Civil Defense were injured Monday while battling a forest fire that broke out in the forests of Jabal Turkman (Mountain), in Lattakia countryside, northwestern Syria.
Hassan Mohammad, head of Civil Defense operations in Lattakia, told SANA that the fire widely spread causing flames to rise, setting fire to the fire engine and injuring three civil defense personnel.
He noted that the fire’s spread is being exacerbated by the winds, and has now reached new areas in the region.
“firefighting teams are working tirelessly to extinguish and control the blaze”, he said, adding that strong winds, terrain factors, and the presence of war remnants that occasionally explode are posing challenges to the extinguishing effort.
