Baylor and Arizona State faced off on Saturday night in the Big 12 opener for both teams.
Punter Palmer Williams booted the ball for the Bears, placing a nearly perfect-punt that forced the Sun Devils down at the one-yard line. However, it was almost ruined as Micah Gifford was trying to make a play on the ball even though it was going out of bounds. The play had color analyst and former Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner confused.
“I mean that is an incredible punt,” Gardner said on the broadcast. “You can’t draw that up any better. I don’t know why he is doing that because it going out of bounds at the one. I have no idea why he is doing that. He almost ruined the entire operation.”

— FOX College Football (@CFBONFOX) September 21, 2025The effort by Gifford can’t be questioned, as that is his job to get down the field and down the ball. However, this was one of those where the bounce went the way of the Bears, and this almost took away a remarkable coffin-corner punt.
Luckily for Baylor, this turned into a funny film session for the Bears, and the Sun Devils had to start with the ball deep in their own territory.
