CHINO HILLS — San Clemente’s junior wide receiver Jaxon Rex ruined the homecoming football game for the Chino Hills High School faithful on Friday night.

Rex helped score two of the Tritons’ four touchdowns in the first half to help his squad get a 26-13 road win over the Huskies.

The Huskies move to 3-2 overall and begin their conference play on Friday at home against Upland. San Clemente improves to 3-2 after losing to La Costa Canyon in Week 3.

San Clemente stopped the Huskies from getting past the 50-yard line the entire first half. The Tritons were able to move the ball at ease with junior quarterback Eiler King at the helm.

San Clemente marched down the field with its first possession. King was connecting on all cylinders with his supporting cast. The Tritons scored on their opening possession on a 2-yard touchdown run from senior running back Carson Sloan.

The Huskies hurt themselves with tons of penalties in the first half. Chino Hills had well over 50 yards of penalties in the first half.

“I just said we already had a game like this. When will we learn from our mistakes? We already had a game where we started off slow in the first half,” Chino Hills head coach Keland Johnson said.

San Clemente didn’t flinch when they got the ball the second time around. King connected to Rex for a 34-yard touchdown pass to go ahead 13-0 as time expired in the first quarter, but failed to get the 2-point conversion.

King would find his senior tight end Shane Kiley for a 37-yard touchdown pass. The senior quarterback wasn’t done spreading the love. Rex would find the end zone on a 37-yard touchdown pass to go ahead 26-0.

“I’ve played with him since freshman year,” Rex said on the chemistry with his quarterback. “The connection is great, and our offensive playcalling was great too.”

The Huskies returned for the second half with tons of energy. Chino Hills marched 50 yards to get inside the 5-yard line for a 4-yard touchdown run from senior running back Jerimiah Jackson to cut the deficit 26-6 in the third quarter.

Both teams struggled to get their offenses going in the third quarter after Chino Hills put points on the board. San Clemente’s defense kept constant pressure on Huskies’ senior quarterback Alex Medyn.

Chino Hills put itself in a position to inch closer to San Clemente’s lead after a bad punt that landed inside the 50-yard line. After several penalties against the Tritons, the Huskies found themselves inside the 10-yard line for the second time in the game.

San Clemente put the brakes on the Huskies’ offense for several drives, but Medyn found his senior tight end, Luke Lopez, for a 6-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 26-13 in the fourth quarter.

Chino Hills had another chance to put points on the board with under nine minutes left. After driving down the field to get inside the 10-yard line again, the Tritons forced a turnover on downs with 3:51 to play in the fourth quarter. It was all she wrote for the Huskies on Friday.

The Tritons look to build on their win against Murrieta Valley on Friday.
