Sooner than later, college football’s transfer portal windows are expected to be whittled down to 1 10-day period. The proposed change would theoretically force what used to be a combined month of chaos into a single, week-and-a-half long stretch in January.
While some coaches, like Ohio State’s Ryan Day, aren’t in favor of the move, LSU’s Brian Kelly is completely on board. On Wednesday, he told reporters that SEC coaches “to a man” support the adjustment, even though the new time frame isn’t completely ideal.
“I know there might be 12-16 teams in the Playoffs at that time, but listen: there’s no crying on the yacht,” Kelly said.
Kelly has yet to make the College Football Playoff with the Tigers, but appeared in it twice at Notre Dame. He’s off to a good start in his quest to reach the CFP for the first time in Baton Rouge. LSU’s season-opening road win over Clemson could end up being the most impressive non-conference victory of the year. Come late November, that’s an incredible chip to hold.
Of course, for the Clemson triumph to mean anything in the end, the Tigers must continue stacking wins. Their next chance to add another victory to their ledger comes Saturday night versus a desperate Florida team. Kickoff between the Tigers and Gators will commence at 7:30 p.m. E.T. on ABC.
