College Football AP Top 25 Poll: Illini Impress, Three Previously Unranked Teams Enter Mix ...Middle East

After a chaotic Week 1 of the college football season, the latest AP Top 25 poll saw a little less movement at the top.

Ohio State, Penn State, and LSU remained the country’s Top 3 squads after handling business against weaker non-conference opponents. The Buckeyes surely looked like the NCAA’s top team after pummeling Grambling with a 70-0 defeat at Ohio Stadium. The Miami Hurricanes also dominated Bethune-Cookman 45-3 to maintain the No. 5 spot, meaning the only change in the Top 5 came at No. 4.

Georgia slipped down the ladder after Austin Peay kept things surprisingly close through three quarters. It wasn’t until the final frame that the Bulldogs pulled away 28-6 and kept the Governors from making it a game. This cost them in the eyes of the voters, who moved them down to No. 6 in exchange for an Oregon Ducks team that embarrassed the Oklahoma State Cowboys 69-3. Oregon has now won its first two by a combined score of 128-16. Yikes!

Two new teams entered the Top 10 for the first time in this early season. On the road for the first time this season, Illinois continued to impress with a 45-19 victory against a solid Duke Blue Devils team. With back-to-back blowouts, they have entered the AP’s Top 10 for the first time in 24 years.

Florida State was the other unit to continue its climb up the ranks. The Seminoles have now gone from unranked to No. 10 in a matter of weeks after posting 77 points on East Texas A&M. Yes, you read that right. And, yes, that is somehow allowed.

Other noteworthy changes include Tennessee moving back into the Top 15, Oklahoma rising to No. 13 after handling Michigan, and Clemson falling to No. 12 despite starting the year Top 4. Three unranked teams have also made their way into the early AP Top 25, including South Florida! The Bulls have beaten back-to-back ranked teams, taking down Boise State before shockingly handing the Florida Gators an 18-16 loss in The Swamp.
