Outside of one very shocking result in Gainesville, the SEC enjoyed a fairly successful Week 2 of action.
Alabama and Texas each bounced back in dominant fashion, Mississippi State picked up a statement win over Arizona State, Oklahoma looked like a conference-title contender against Michigan, Vanderbilt left Blacksburg with a 24-point W and Missouri earned a Border War victory over Kansas.
The SEC’s success was reflected in this week’s Coaches Poll, as 9 teams made the cut and five were receiving votes, meaning that only Kentucky and Arkansas were not represented.
The Week 3 Coaches Poll:
Ohio State Penn State Georgia LSU Oregon Miami Texas Notre Dame Illinois South Carolina Clemson Florida State Ole Miss Iowa State Tennessee Oklahoma Texas A&M Alabama Indiana Texas Tech Utah Michigan South Florida Arizona State BYUMissouri (142) was the team receiving the most votes outside of the rankings, with Florida (68) and Auburn (57) not far behind. The Gators dropped out from their 15th spot following their upset loss at the hands of South Florida.
Mississippi State (15) and Vanderbilt (7) also received some respect following their impressive non-conference victories.
The No. 3 and No. 15 teams will clash next weekend when Georgia visits Neyland Stadium, but Sept. 27 is when the league really works out much of its standing. That weekend, No. 3 LSU will visit No. 13 Ole Miss while No. 18 Alabama clashes with No. 3 Georgia in Athens.
