GREELEY — A #KepnerCrew hashtag on LinkedIn and the Kepner Café opening in the near future are just two of the new initiatives that Steve Elias has brought so far to the University of Northern Colorado campus.
Elias, the new dean at the Monfort College of Business in Kepner Hall, assumed the role July 14.
First on Elias’s list were new #KepnerCrew T-shirts for business school staff. None other than the UNC president’s office heard about the logo T-shirts and wanted to find out more about them, he said. A T-shirt remains a great way to do team-building, Elias said, adding that he posted photos to LinkedIn to promote the brand.
“People seem to be taking to it,” Elias said.
Next up are Elias’ plans for a new oil and gas industry accounting class, after a community member with whom he met suggested that there was a gap in knowledge in the region.
He also is looking to combine existing mentor programs with plans for every Monfort College student to have a mentor. The college has several mentoring programs, which Elias plans to bring together into one place to serve all students.
Finally, there’s a big project for students in the works that Elias said he wants to keep under wraps at the moment. The teaser — the project is something he is building on from his previous job at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Elias said.
“I’m happy to be here. I leveraged relationships to do cool things here,” Elias said.
Elias worked for eight years at Fort Lewis College, where he was Katz Endowed Dean of the Katz School of Business, as well as the founder and director of the U.S. Economic Development Administration funded Center for Innovation.
He brings more than 24 years of higher-education experience to the job. Elias earned a doctorate in applied social psychology from Colorado State University, a master’s degree in applied psychology from Auburn University’s campus in Montgomery, Alabama, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of South Florida.
