Notable this week: Yorba Linda’s 21-17 win in Week 1 over Edison moves the Mustangs up to No. 7 from last week’s No. 9 position. … Santa Margarita, a winner over Centennial, takes sole possession of No. 3 in the rankings after tying for that berth with Orange Lutheran last week. … JSerra is 0-2 but remains at No. 12. … Trabuco Hills rises to No. 18 this week after a season-opening win, 20-19, win over No. 19 Huntington Beach.

1. Mater Dei 1-0 (75 points)

The Monarchs’ game last week, which would have been their home opener, was canceled because Bishop Montgomery forfeited. Bishop Montgomery said it did not have enough players. Mater Dei, which is No. 1 in the national rankings, plays Kahuku (2-2), the No. 2 team in Hawaii by the HSratings.com state rankings, on Friday at Santa Ana Stadium.

2. Mission Viejo 2-0 (72)

Luke Fahey completed 23 of 26 passes for 375 yards and three touchdowns in a 58-14 win over St. Paul. The Diablos, who opened the season with a 7-3 win over Santa Margarita, are home Friday against Folsom, the No. 9 team in California according to the HSratings.com state rankings. Mission Viejo is No. 4 in those state rankings.

3. Santa Margarita 1-1 (69)

The Eagles got Carson Palmer his first coaching win with a 33-27 overtime victory over state No. 6 Centennial. They did it without their best offensive player, receiver Trent Mosley, who could not play because of a foot injury. Ryan Clark had seven receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown. Luke Gazzaniga had six receptions for 83 yards. The Eagles travel to Palmdale to play Highland (0-2) on Friday.

4. Orange Lutheran 2-0 (66)

The Lancers put together a big second-half rally to beat Rancho Cucamonga 27-24. They trailed 24-6 in the third quarter. Orange Lutheran quarterback Reagan Toki threw three of his four touchdown passes in the third quarter. The Lancers travel this week to Arizona to play Basha (1-0).

5. Servite 1-1 (63)

After doing so much wrong in their season-opening loss to Centennial, the Friars did so much right last week in a 56-35 win over Murrieta Valley. Servite quarterback Kale Murphy threw four touchdown passes. Gavin Gutierrez rushed for 160 yards and Servite’s defense created five turnovers. Servite plays Chaminade (1-1) on Friday at Orange Coast College.

6. San Juan Hills 2-0 (60)

The Stallions blanked Eastvale Roosevelt 41-0. Noah Howell returned an interception for a touchdown and Dean Kolasinski also had an interception. Quarterback Timmy Herr completed 11 of 14 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns. Five different receivers had at least two receptions each. San Juan Hills is home Friday against Chino Hills (2-0).

7T. Tustin 2-0 (55)

The Tillers overwhelmed neighborhood rival Foothill 44-0. Tustin’s defense held the Knights to minus-2 yards rushing. Jeremiah Savant caught a 38-yard touchdown pass and returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown. Taven Epps had two of Tustin’s six sacks. The Tillers play Long Beach Poly on Friday at Veterans Stadium.

7T. Yorba Linda 2-0 (55)

The Mustangs were the better team in the fourth quarter of their 21-17 win over Edison in another great battle between the two high-achieving programs. Isaiah Trujillo rushed for three touchdowns. Troy Roberts had 131 all-purpose yards and safety Andrew Maldonado contributed seven solo tackles. Yorba Linda plays at San Jacinto (1-1) on Thursday.

9. Edison 1-1 (49)

The Chargers lost a tough one to Yorba Linda 21-17. Edison’s Blaise Burwell returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. Penalties washed out some big Edison plays; the Chargers were penalized seven times for 53 yards. Edison plays Lakewood on Friday at Huntington Beach High.

10. Los Alamitos 3-0 (47)

The Griffins cruised to a 48-0 win over Narbonne. The competition gets tougher for them this week. Los Alamitos plays at Serra on Friday. Serra is No. 14 in the HSratings.com California rankings that have Los Alamitos at No. 16.
