Former Indian cricketer Anjum Chopra has ruled out the possibility of the ODI World Cup games shifting out of the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru to the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai creating any impact on the hosts. Following the Bengaluru stampede which left 11 dead and several injured after RCB’s IPL 2025 title win, the Karnataka government denied permission for the matches to be held in Bengaluru. As a result, the opening match, a semi-final and the final of the Women’s Cricket World Cup have been moved out of Bengaluru.
Change in venue won’t affect India
Speaking to RevSportz, Chopra opined that the stadium atmosphere was individual. The former Indian cricketer pointed out that the conditions don’t matter as long as the India women’s cricket team was able to adapt. She claimed that it all came down to the skill level, adding that it needed more of a collective effort than individual preparation.
“As for conditions, it really doesn’t matter, we have to adapt, and that’s how we are trained. India has more than 30 venues capable of hosting international cricket. It comes down to how you adapt on that particular day against the opposition,” Chopra said.
INDW vs SLW, ENGW vs SAW, INDW vs BANW and the semi-final were the clashes that were scheduled to be held in Bengaluru. Earlier, it was reported that Thiruvananthapuram will replace Bengaluru as a venue. However, that is not the case as Navi Mumbai has pipped the Kerala city to host the WC matches.
