I’ll say it before you do: Playoffs?! You kiddin’ me? Playoffs?!
The Chicago Bulls certainly should take a page out of former NFL head coach Jim Mora’s playbook as they enter the 2025-26 regular season. Their sole focus should be on the singular game that stands in front of them, especially if they want to prioritize player development and establishing a meaningful identity.
Unfortunately, what the Bulls should do and what they actually do tend to differ. The Bulls may not express it publicly, but fighting for a postseason appearance will be on their mind. This is a franchise that has shown zero desire to throw away a season, so much so that it has worked against them in recent years. If three consecutive Play-In Tournament losses have proven anything, it’s that pushing for a playoff berth will almost always outweigh draft positioning for this front office.
In that case, why wouldn’t we familiarize ourselves with the current NBA playoffs projections? Especially when we consider the wide-open nature of the Eastern Conference, it can not hurt to take a quick glance at the odds.

To no surprise, FanDuel has Chicago as a heavy favorite to miss out on the postseason for the fourth straight year. They are -700 to finish on the outside looking in, whereas they are +410 to secure a top 8 seed.
DraftKings has even less faith in Billy Donovan’s squad. They have the Bulls listed at +450 to clinch a playoff series, while they are -650 to miss the mark entirely. Not great!
Chicago’s odds are significantly worse than several of the teams that have swam in similar waters over the last few years. For instance, FanDuel has the Miami Heat as only a slight underdog for the playoffs at +100. The Raptors are also just on the cusp at +118, and the Hawks have actually seen themselves become a postseason favorite at -600 due to their offseason acquisitions (Kristaps Porzingis and Nickeil Alexander-Walker).
Look, I’m not a big bettor, and I would never encourage anyone to throw some money on this specific Bulls team. But … am I crazy for thinking the odds are slightly enticing? The Eastern Conference feels like a complete unknown this season. The previous two conference champs are missing their top top players (Boston will be without Jayson Tatum, and Indiana will be without Tyrese Haliburton). We were also reminded last season of how quickly things can go south for certain squads, as the Philadelphia 76ers finished 13th.
Once again, this Bulls organization has shown that they have no shame in playing for the Play-In. And, well, anything can happen once you reach that point! What happens if Josh Giddey and Coby White continue to perform like their post-All-Star break selves? How about if Matas Buzelis has the breakout season some expect? All I’m saying is that if the Bulls ended up 8th in the East, I’m not sure any of us would be downright flabbergasted. Plus, winning a few bucks could at least make the inevitable first-round sweep hurt that much less!
