Does England have ‘killer instinct’ to end Ashes drought in Australia? ...Middle East

Former Australia cricket team coach Justin Langer has advised England to stick to their Bazball approach in the upcoming Ashes. Ben Stokes and co. have an uphill task at hand, given that England last won an Ashes in Australia way back in 1986/87. The arch-rivals will lock horns in a mouth-watering five-match Test series that is scheduled to commence from November 21 onwards.

What England need to do to win Ashes

Speaking on BBC Sounds’ For the Love of Cricket podcast, Langer said that it was imperative for England to play with an aggressive approach against Australia in order to put the pressure back on the hosts. He said that it was going to take a great deal of courage for the England batters to tackle the likes of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins.

“Call it Bazball or the aggressive approach, but I think England must play that approach in Australia. No question, because it’ll put pressure back on.It’s going to take courage because you have got Starc bowling like he does, Hazlewood never misses the spot and Cummins is a generational bowler. So it’s going to take great courage,” Langer said.

Further, Langer predicted that the Ashes 2025/26 was going to be a very close series. The former Australian head coach questioned if England had the killer instict to finish off a series from a position where they could. He cited the last Ashes series and the IND vs ENG series in which the results were 2-2.

“My question for England will be, have you got the killer instinct to finish off a series if you get a chance? We’ve seen it, the two-all here in the last Ashes series, two-all against India. England had the chances to win that series. Have you got the killer instinct to win the Ashes in Australia?,” Langer added.
