The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the military incursion carried out by Israeli forces in Beit Jinn (western Damascus countryside) on Monday, August 25.
The ministry described the takeover by a force of 11 military vehicles and around 60 soldiers of the “Bat al-Warda” hill on the slopes of Mount Hermon as a “flagrant violation” of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the ministry said the “serious escalation” posed a direct threat to regional peace and security.
It added that the incursion reflected once again the “aggressive” approach of the “occupation authorities” in defiance of international law and relevant UN resolutions, particularly those related to respecting state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
The ministry warned that the continuation of such violations undermines stabilization efforts and exacerbates regional tensions.
It called on the United Nations and the UN Security Council to assume their legal and moral responsibilities, take urgent and effective measures to deter Israel from “aggressive practices,” and ensure accountability under international law to safeguard Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Israeli Forces in Beit Jinn
Earlier on Monday, an Israeli force of dozens of soldiers advanced into the town of Beit Jinn and its surrounding farmlands, firing toward residents. No injuries or casualties were reported amid heightened tension in the area.
The Damascus Countryside governorate told Enab Baladi that an “enemy force” of around 100 personnel infiltrated the outskirts of Beit Jinn and Mazra‘at Beit Jinn, specifically the Bat al-Warda area overlooking the town.
The Israeli army claimed the incursion was aimed at searching for “saboteurs,” according to the governorate. It added that the reality was a direct attack on civilians’ safety and security.
Regarding the gunfire directed at locals, the governorate said residents had peacefully gathered to demand the withdrawal of the Israeli force, only to be met with live fire, an “outrageous assault” it described as a “crime” against civilians.
On June 27, Israeli forces had also advanced to the outskirts of Beit Jinn, erecting a checkpoint before later withdrawing.
Increased Incursions
Israeli military activity in southern Syria has escalated in recent days, particularly in Quneitra province.
On Sunday, August 14, Israeli army spokesperson for Arabic media, Avichay Adraee, announced on X that army units had carried out several nighttime operations in southern Syria.
Adraee explained that “Golan Brigade 474,” under the 210th Division, had conducted simultaneous sweeps across several targets to uncover weapons and detain suspects.
According to him, the operations uncovered weapons caches containing RPG rounds, improvised explosive devices, Kalashnikov parts, and large quantities of ammunition. All items were confiscated, and several suspects were detained and interrogated by field investigators from “Unit 504” based on intelligence collected in recent weeks.
Denial of Deployment in Qatana
The Damascus Countryside governorate’s media office denied reports circulated on social media and in media outlets claiming that an Israeli tank and military checkpoint had been seen in Qatana (south of Damascus).
On July 23, the office stated the reports were “entirely false,” stressing that Qatana remains under full Syrian sovereignty, with Syrian army checkpoints deployed and closely monitored by the country’s military and security apparatus.
Local social media accounts had claimed at the time that Israeli forces had deployed a tank and three armored vehicles, erecting checkpoints in Qatana, about 20 kilometers from Damascus, in addition to advancing near Qalaat Jandal in Mount Hermon.
