2025 Chicago Bears 53-Man Roster Predictions ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The preseason is over, and we’re closing in on the Chicago Bears (and the NFL’s 31 other teams) making the final roster cuts of training camp. This is where Head Coach Ben Johnson and his coaching staff will put together their initial 53-man roster and begin preparing for their Week 1 contest with the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.

The roster will be cut to 53 players by 3:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday. Here is how I see the initial roster shaking out for the Chicago Bears.

Chicago Bears 53-Man Roster Predictions

Quarterbacks (3): Caleb Williams, Tyson Bagent, Case Keenum

Ben Johnson said that he feels Chicago has one of the best quarterback rooms in the NFL, and its depth was on display in training camp and the preseason. Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent had solid performances during the exhibition slate. Meanwhile, Case Keenum provides the two young quarterbacks with veteran leadership. Second-year undrafted free agent Austin Reed will be the odd man out, likely finding his way onto the practice squad.

Running Backs (4): D’Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson, Kyle Monangai, Travis Homer

I have Roschon Johnson listed ahead of Kyle Monangai here, but I feel like there’s a good chance the rookie out of Rutgers ends up being the secondary back in Ben Johnson’s backfield behind D’Andre Swift. Monangai had a solid camp, and Johnson sang his praises on multiple occasions. Ian Wheeler was someone who folks think might have a shot, but Travis Homer is a core special teamer, and I think Wheeler opens the season with the practice squad if he can clear waivers this week.

Wide Receivers (6): DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, Olamide Zaccheaus, Devin Duvernay, Jahdae Walker

Here is my first, non-chalky selection, with rookie wide receiver Jahdae Walker getting the nod for the opening night 53-man roster. Walker had an impressive camp and preseason, and Devin Duvernay’s role in Chicago is more about his contributions in the return game. The rest of this group is self-explanatory. Let’s give Olamide Zaccheaus his flowers. He arguably had the best camp of anyone in the group.

Tight Ends (3): Cole Kmet, Colston Loveland, Durham Smythe

Even with Ben Johnson’s preseason designs being largely old game plans, there is plenty of reason to believe he will use Cole Kmet and Colston Loveland as the two-headed monster. This is going to be an exciting duo to watch. Durham Smythe provides Johnson with a reliable and familiar veteran when needed.

Offensive Line (9): Braxton Jones, Joe Thuney, Drew Dalman, Jonah Jackson, Darnell Wright, Ozzy Traplio, Theo Benedet, Ryan Bates, Luke Newman

With wide receiver Jahdae Walker making the roster as the sixth wide receiver, there needs to be a squeeze somewhere else. And in this case, I have Kiran Amegadjie as the odd-man out.

The second-year lineman got a shot to compete for the left tackle job to open camp while Braxton Jones was recovering from a season-ending injury that kept him out of OTAs and minicamp. But Amegadjie failed to impress and was relegated to third-string duty behind Jones, Ozzy Trapilo, and later, Theo Benedet. Bears GM Ryan Poles loves Ryan Bates’ ability to play at multiple spots on the interior. The same can be said for Luke Newman, the rookie who did more than Amergadjie to make a case for a roster spot during training camp.

Defensive Lineman (10): Montez Sweat, Grady Jarrett, Gervon Dexter Sr., Dayo Odeyingbo, Andrew Billings, Austin Booker, Tanoh Kpassagnon, Shemar Turner, Dominique Robinson, Chris Williams

The Bears’ defensive line strength currently lies on the interior, where Grady Jarrett, Gervon Dexter Sr., and Andrew Billings form a steady rotation. Rookie Shemar Turner should eventually add to that group, but an ankle injury limited his training camp reps and may delay his impact early in the season. Off the edge, the depth behind Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo appears more reliable than in years past, but still not where I would like to see. Odeyingbo wasn’t impressive at all during camp, but here’s to hoping he finds another gear in the regular season.

Something to keep an eye on here is Austin Booker, who Bears Coach Ben Johnson said would miss time due to a knee injury suffered in the team’s preseason win against the Buffalo Bills. Booker could land on IR to start the season, which could open up a roster spot for someone else while the second-year edge defender recovers from the injury.

Linebackers (5): Tremaine Edmunds, T.J. Edwards, Noah Sewell, Ruben Hyppolite II II, Amen Ogbongbemiga

The Bears haven’t locked in who will play where between Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards, but with Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen leaning into more five-man fronts, this linebacker crew is going to be counted on to add some extra juice. Rookie Ruben Hyppolite II is quickly turning heads, battling Noah Sewell for that third linebacker role and carving out a spot on Chicago’s special teams units.

Cornerbacks (6): Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, Tyrique Stevenson, Nahshon Wright, Josh Blackwell, Nick McCloud

Friday’s preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs was a brutal night for Chicago’s secondary depth, and I can’t wait to see Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon back out there. Terell Smith would have been in this group had it not been for his season-ending injury against Buffalo.

Safeties (4): Kevin Byard III, Jaquan Brisker, Jonathan Owens, Elijah Hicks

This group has the fewest question marks on the defensive side of the ball for me. Chicago’s safeties feature two above-average starters in veteran Kevin Byard III and Jaquan Brisker, as well as serviceable depth players such as Jonathan Owens and Elijah Hicks. After missing most of last year because of a concussion, Brisker has looked like his old self this summer

Specialists (3): Cairo Santos, Tory Taylor, Scott Daly

Cairo Santos showed enough leg this summer that Chicago cut undrafted free agent kicker Jonathan Kim following the Miami contest, and there was never a consideration for anyone other than Tory Taylor at punter.
