Greeley resident Amberleigh Gregor runs for city council’s Ward 4 seat ...Saudi Arabia

Greeley resident Amberleigh Gregor has worn a lot of hats in her time, and now she seeks to add another by running for the Ward 4 seat on the city council.

Gregor will run for city council on a platform of directed and purposeful development, focusing on expanding outdoor resources by improving walkability to parks and open spaces from every neighborhood, in addition to improvements to stormwater and roads.

“We are growing at such a fast rate, but let’s take a moment to be intentional about what we are creating,” Gregor said in an email. “Every Greeley resident deserves access to parks and recreation opportunities and quality infrastructure. If we can pinpoint what the residents need, when they need it, and where they need it, we will grow together.”

Gregor is in the process of starting her own small business while working as a contractor for an emergency freight company. She believes this experience, in addition to a background in mortgage loan processing and nonprofits, will be invaluable to her potential time in office.

“I absorb information quickly, understand complex issues, and appreciate hearing multiple perspectives before making decisions,” Gregor said. “Ward 4 is rapidly expanding, and with my passion for purposeful development, it’s the perfect time to bring my ideas to the table and shape our community.”

For several months, Greeley resident Bill Gillard was the only candidate for Ward 4, which encompasses the area northwest of the intersection of 35th Avenue and 10th Street. With current Ward 4 Councilman Brett Payton not running for reelection, Gregor felt it was important to give voters a choice.

“One of the worst things that can happen in representative government is when an open seat is uncontested,” Gregor said. “Constituents deserve the right to vote for a candidate that best aligns with their values.”

Former Evans mayor Brian Rudy on Tuesday also joined the race for the Ward 4 seat.

Gregor emphasized the importance of a cooperative relationship between the city’s residents and their government. This point came during a discussion about the Catalyst project, an entertainment district planned for the city’s western edge, and her participation in the Greeley Deserves Better initiative committee that seeks to bring the issue of the project’s funding to the ballot this November.

“I recognize the need for an economic anchor to our community, but we need to determine as a community if we are willing to take on a $1.1 billion risk,” Gregor said. “I want to be the bridge between the residents and city government and empower our collective voice.”

There are four other city council seats up for grabs this year, including mayor, at-large, Ward 2 and Ward 3.

The city clerk’s office will accept nomination petitions and candidate affidavits of intent to file until 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25.

Election Day is Nov. 4.
