Charles Leclerc finally broke through for his first victory of the 2026 Formula 1 season with a commanding drive in the British Grand Prix, capitalising on devastating late drama for championship leader Kimi Antonelli to lead home George Russell and Ferrari team-mate Lewis Hamilton.
Leclerc seized control from the outset, launching past polesitter Antonelli into Turn 1, with Hamilton also sweeping by the Mercedes driver to make it a Ferrari one-two in the opening corners.
While the Monegasque completed his sole pit stop early, Antonelli stretched his opening stint in search of a tyre advantage, finally stopping on lap 35 of 52. It briefly appeared to hand the Mercedes driver a chance of fighting back.

Instead, disaster struck six laps later.
Antonelli radioed that "something is broken", with a failure of the left wheel shield leaving his Mercedes almost undriveable. Two additional pit stops failed to cure the issue, dropping the Italian outside the points and costing him 18 valuable championship points.
His misfortune handed Leclerc a comfortable path to victory, the Monegasque crossing the finish line around 20 seconds clear of Hamilton before a late Safety Car neutralised the race.
Hamilton's afternoon had already been complicated by a five-second penalty for a false start, but the Ferrari driver comfortably recovered after serving it during his pit stop, winning a fierce battle with Russell and Max Verstappen.
Verstappen spins, Russell inherits second
Verstappen looked poised to salvage an unlikely podium despite battling handling issues, gearbox concerns and inconsistent power deployment throughout the race.
However, with just six laps remaining, the reigning world champion spun into the gravel at Stowe, triggering the Safety Car.
Most of the field dived into the pits for fresh soft tyres, but Russell stayed out on worn medium tyres, allowing the Mercedes driver to inherit second place ahead of Hamilton and McLaren's Lando Norris.
Although race control initially indicated the Safety Car would return to the pits before the final lap, it ultimately remained on track until the chequered flag, freezing the order and securing Russell's runner-up finish.
The result came as welcome relief after the Briton had earlier overcome a slow puncture that required an extra pit stop.
Hamilton completed the podium but still faces an FIA investigation for an alleged yellow-flag infringement.
Norris climbed to fourth after benefiting from the retirements and setbacks ahead, despite another difficult afternoon for McLaren.
Isack Hadjar claimed fifth for Red Bull, while Racing Bulls celebrated a double points finish through Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad in sixth and seventh. Gabriel Bortoleto secured his first points for Audi in eighth, with Alpine duo Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly completing the top 10.
Antonelli eventually limped home in 16th, seeing his championship lead over Russell reduced to just 25 points.
