What will rookie Chicago Bulls power forward Caleb Wilson look like when guarded by an elite defensive big?
We’re about to find out.
On Sunday night, the Bulls will play their first road contest of the 2026 preseason, suiting up against the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena. Veteran four Aaron Gordon will likely do his darnedest to keep Wilson away from the rack.
Starting small forward Matas Buzelis exited the Bulls’ 104-100 Friday defeat to the visiting Memphis Grizzlies with a tweaked right ankle. He expected to travel with Chicago to Denver, but remains questionable.
Denver’s new personnel is relatively unremarkable (Marvin Bagley III, anyone?), but there’s at least one new edition who’ll excite nostalgic Chicagoans: minimum-salaried swingman DeMar DeRozan, who made two All-Star teams and an All-NBA team during his three seasons in town.

— Denver Nuggets (@nuggets) October 11, 2026The Bulls’ center depth is also fairly decimated right now (again, it’s just the preseason and Chicago should try to lose as much as possible anyway this year).
Rim-running expected starter Nicolas Claxton will remain sidelined for the entire preseason. Backup five Jalen Smith sat out the Memphis loss with a foot issue and remains a question mark, while always-hurt Zach Collins has a quad injury. That means Tobe Awaka and Leonard Miller will likely get lots of run, as they did on Friday.
Backup point guard Tre Jones and two-way rookie guard Jaylin Sellers are still shelved, too, meaning that Dailyn Swain will likely play on the ball more than he’d prefer.
Denver, meanwhile, is set to be largely healthy.

What To Watch For
Undrafted rookie two-way signing Awaka fizzled under a harsher spotlight against Memphis, scoring a less-than-scintillating zero points on 0-for-2 shooting — although he pulled down seven rebounds. Miller’s fastbreak acumen and jump shooting, however, might make him worth more run than Awaka. He scored 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor (1-of-3 from distance)) and 1-of-3 shooting from the charity stripe, while grabbing 11 rebounds. His zero plus-minus on Friday numbered among the strongest on the team. Critics (including yours truly) have wondered how well DeRozan will fit in on this fairly threadbare Denver bench. He remains a strong scorer from midrange and inside, plus a solid rebounder and passer for his position. But the 37-year-old is, at best, a disengaged defender, cannot shoot a trey, and may be best with the ball in his hands. When Jamal Murray and/or Nikola Jokic sit, he could come in handy. How will he look alongside them? Through two preseason games so far, DeRozan has been averaging just 10.7 minutes off the bench — a tally that will surely at least double in the regular season. He’s been averaging 6.0 points on .400/.333/1.000 shooting splits, 1.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per. Denver Nuggets guard DeMar DeRozan. Injury ReportChicago Bulls
