While Garrett Nussmeier is the unquestioned starting quarterback for the Tigers, some news broke Monday that backup quarterback Michael Van Buren was dealing with an injury and had a splint on a finger on his throwing hand.
On Tuesday, Kelly gave a positive response on Van Buren, saying the injury isn’t anything too serious and that he will be back throwing the ball at practice on Wednesday.
“He had an X-Ray and MRI and there’s no damage,” Kelly said. “He was just sore, so we shut him down a little bit, but he will be back. He did light throwing in the afternoon today, and we’ll have him back tomorrow.”

He threw for 1,886 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. In a game against Georgia last season, he threw for 306 yards and 3 touchdowns.
He is currently the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart, and in college football, that position is always one play away from being in the game. Having him back at practice on Wednesday is positive news for the Tigers as he is still learning the playbook after transferring at the end of last season.
LSU is a small underdog in its Week 1 game against Clemson, according to the latest college football betting lines.
