Rich Eisen made his eagerly-anticipated return to SportsCenter on Monday night.
For the first time in 20 years, Eisen kicked things off after the Monday Night Football preseason game between the Washington Commanders and Cincinnati Bengals.
Eisen returned to the place where it all started on Monday nightGettyEisen had worked for ESPN from 1996 to 2003, having anchored SportsCenter alongside the late Stuart Scott for a number of years.

In 2007, Scott had an appendectomy and learned that his appendix was cancerous. After going into remission, he was again diagnosed with cancer in 2011 and 2013.
Tragically, he died in 2015 at the age of 49.
Upon his return to SportsCenter on Monday, Eisen paid tribute to his friend and former colleague as a montage of their highlights together was shown.
After the montage, Eisen got choked up and took a brief moment to compose himself.
“It has been a blast being here tonight,” he said.
“But we all know, there should be someone else right here in this chair next to me,” he added, pointing to his right.
“I frequently think of Stuart, a lot.
“I miss Stuart so very much.”

“Legends are forever,” posted one fan.
“I’m straight crying at 11 o clock at night,” added another.
“As cool as the other side of the pillow. RIP Stu,” a third commented.
“This is great stuff. Rich and Stuart were great together!” said a fourth.
Eisen first appeared on SportsCenter in 2003, but left ESPN to join NFL Network when that was launched in 2003.
He became one of the top talents on their new roster, while his eponymous show gained a following of its own.
Now, The Rich Eisen Show is moving to ESPN+, ESPN DTC, and Disney+ this fall after ESPN’s announcement of a non-binding agreement to “acquire NFL Network and certain other media assets woned and controlled by the NFL – including NFL’s linear RedZone Channel, and NFL Fantasy – in exchange for a 10% equity stake in ESPN.”
Apparently, Eisen’s return to ESPN was already in the works, even before the merger.
The Rich Eisen Show will begin its chapter with ESPN on Sept. 2, airing nationally from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET, while will also being available on YouTube.
“Eisen’s reconnection with ESPN, his home from 1996 to 2003, will go beyond The Rich Eisen Show to include select appearances across ESPN studio programming. During his original tenure, Eisen was a prominent SportsCenter anchor and contributed to multiple high-profile events. Separate from his newest ESPN agreement, Eisen maintains his role at NFL Network,” ESPN detailed in a press release.
