A 20-year-old man was arrested for involuntary manslaughter, among other alleged crimes, after a high school student in the far western suburbs was shot and killed late Saturday, police stated.
Keyshaun D. Davis, of Hampshire, was arrested for involuntary manslaughter, endangering the life or health of a child, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a FOID card and possession of ammunition without a FOID card, the Hampshire Police Department said in a Facebook post.
Davis was taken to the Kane County Jail, where he remained in custody pending a bond hearing.
The 20-year-old was arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday at a residence along High Avenue near South State Street. Officers arrived at the scene and found a 17-year-old boy who had been shot, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.
Police haven’t identified the teenager or provided specifics on what happened but said there was no ongoing threat to the community.
A family member identified the teenager as Deegan Kirschke, a Hampshire High School student who was a lifelong wrestler and motorsports enthusiast, to the Daily Herald newspaper.
The incident was under investigation by Hampshire police in conjunction with the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force.
