Drew Barrymore, known for her Drew Barrymore Show and her starring role in the 1999 film Never Been Kissed, is going full circle with Pillsbury.
Barrymore landed her first acting role in 1979 in a Pillsbury ad at age 4 (her first-ever role was in a dog food commercial when she was 11 months old), and now the actress is returning for another project with them. CBS is bringing the Pillsbury Bake-Off Classic back to its network, and Barrymore will host.
The show first aired in 1949 under its former title, the Grand National Recipe and Baking Contest. According to Deadline, the show brings together contestants from across the country for five rounds of baking challenges. From cookies to Thanksgiving pies, the show puts their “technical skills and imagination to the test,” Deadline wrote.
Per the logline, “Beyond the competition, the special will showcase the personal stories, traditions and inspiration behind the home bakers and the recipes they bring to the table, celebrating the creativity that has made the Pillsbury Bake-Off Classic a beloved American baking tradition.”
Barrymore follows a long line of celebrity hosts, from Alex Trebek to Oprah Winfrey. With Barrymore hosting, Christina Tosi and Dook Chase will join her as celebrity chef judges. The top baker in each round will be placed in the “Best in Bake” finale, where the winner will earn a $25,000 cash prize and a KitchenAid equipment package.
“Bringing the Pillsbury Bake-Off back to primetime television after more than 20 years is an exciting way to celebrate the creativity and joy home bakers have shared with us for generations,” Maria Carolina Comings, vice president and business unit director for Pillsbury at General Mills, said in a statement to Deadline. “We’re thrilled to kick off the holiday baking season on such a large stage and inspire both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers.”
