Well, it looks like I won’t be writing about Owen Caissie much here anymore! That’s ok, still several more Cubs prospects to cover. Best of luck to Caissie, making his debut in his home country today after his call-up to the big club! In other minor league news, Jameson Taillon made a rehab start for Iowa, Knoxville’s bats struggled again, South Bend won in blowout fashion, and Myrtle Beach dropped a close one.

Triple-A Iowa Cubs
Owen Caissie’s last game for Iowa wasn’t the most eventful one, but it resulted in a Cubs win! The Cubs took home a 1-0 win over the Worcester Red Sox, largely due to dominant pitching (obviously). Jameson Taillon made the start for Iowa and was fairly sharp. He went 5.1 innings, struck out four, and allowed two hits and two walks. The bullpen took over from there and, while they worked around a few walks, kept the Red Sox off the board all game long. He’ll be back up with the big league team for his next one.
The lone run of the game came for Iowa in the bottom of the sixth when Chase Strumpf roped a two-out double to give the Cubs the 1-0 lead.

Knoxville managed a few more hits than they did in Tuesday’s shutout loss, but unfortunately, Wednesday’s game still yielded the same result – a 5-0 loss. After a scoreless first three innings, the Trash Pandas scored two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two more in the eighth to pick up their second straight shutout win.
The bright spot in this one, though, was Jefferson Rojas. The Cubs’ high-end prospect has struggled since his call-up, and last night he went 1-2 and reached base three times with a pair of walks as well. Hopefully, that’s a performance he can build on a little bit.
Notable Performances

High-A South Bend Cubs
Seemingly just about everything went right for South Bend in Wednesday’s 12-1 win over the Sky Carp. Erian Rodriguez was really good in his start, striking out nine over five innings of work and allowing just two walks and one hit. At the plate, Rafael Morel had a big night again, going 4-5 with three RBI. Drew Bowser also had a noteworthy night at the plate, driving in a whopping five runs from the nine-spot in the lineup.
This game was a relatively close one heading into the seventh with the Cubs leading 3-1, but the bats broke it open with three more runs in the seventh and a six-spot in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
Notable Performances
Rafel Morel | 4-5, 3 R, 3 RBI, BB Drew Bowser | 2-3, R, 5 RBI, 3B, BB Erian Rodriguez | 5.0 IP, H, 0 R, 9 K, 2 BBFINAL: Cubs 12, Sky Carp 1 | Box Score
Low-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Pelicans dropped a tough one to the Fireflies on Wednesday. Myrtle Beach took a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but they surrendered four runs to Columbia in that frame, which sent the game to extra innings. Following the blown lead, the Pelicans dropped the game in the 10th after a two-run inning for the Fireflies.
Offensively, the player of the game was Cubs second-round pick Kane Kepley. Kepley has been red-hot for Myrtle Beach since making his debut. Last night, he went 3-5 with a triple, 3 RBI, and stole a base as well. That bumped his average up to .409 with the Pelicans.
