This month will be the last in which friends can meet at Greeley’s Cables Pub and Grill.
For 53 years, the locally owned and operated restaurant has served locals as well as visitors, adopting the motto “Where Friends Meet.”
In a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon on the Cables Pub and Grill Greeley page, the restaurant announced it is closing this month. An official closing date will be announced soon.
Gary Kugal of Boulder opened the restaurant as Cables End in 1972 next to a power station on 23rd Avenue and 10th Street near the end of some large power line cables.
In 1979, operations manager Keith Johnson, a New York native, purchased Cables. The restaurant expanded at its original location until 1986, when Johnson opened Cables End Italian Grille on the corner of 38th Avenue and 10th Street.
In 2004, Johnson sold the building to relocate and update the restaurant as Cables Pub & Grill at its current location, 1923 59th Ave., Unit 105.
“We are forever grateful for the support of the Greeley community, and letting us be a part of your lives over the years!” the post stated.
The Greeley restaurant follows a Cables location in Estes Park that shut down in 2016. Cables in Fort Morgan is still operating.
