Chicago Cubs Upcoming Rotation ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The Chicago Cubs have announced their starters for the Toronto Blue Jays series, answering questions about the once-again-open rotation spot and the rehabbing starters.

As announced, the Cubs will go with Ben Brown on Tuesday, Cade Horton on Wednesday, and Matthew Boyd on Thursday.

That means Brown, who took over the game Mike Soroka departed last week, effectively replaces Soroka in this turn through the rotation. It also means that neither Jameson Taillon nor Javier Assad will start in this series, though they could have based on rest.

Does that mean each will make another rehab start at Iowa? Could the Cubs just be pushing one of them to Friday? It’s possible with Taillon, but Assad made his last start on Wednesday. I don’t think they’d give him a near 10-day break. So with Assad, at least, I’m assuming he’s getting at least one more rehab start at Iowa.

I’ve gotta believe that if and when both Taillon and Assad are good to go, the Cubs will use a six-man rotation at least once or twice through. It spreads the innings around, buys extra days of rest, and comes right around when rosters expand in September to allow them an extra pitcher on the roster anyway.

(Obligatory joke about how none if it matters unless they can hit or something.)
