2025 Florida Age Group (FLAGS) Championships
July 10-13, 2025 LCM (50m) Prelims/Finals Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training, Ocala, Florida Meet Website with ResultsSydney Hardy swam all personal bests en route to nine wins and three US Open cuts at the 2025 FLAGS Championships in Ocala, Florida. These impressive swims, as well as those two weeks later at Futures, helped her finish off her breakout summer with six US Open cuts and an additional five Summer Junior National cuts.
The 14-year-old from the Sarasota Sharks kicked off the meet in her best event, the 1500 free, where she not only took the victory, but did so in dominant fashion. Hardy’s 16:45.04 got her the win by 47 seconds, and was well under the US Open cut of 17:07.99. Not only that, but she climbed into the all-time top 50 for 13-14 girls in that event, sitting in 47th, one spot ahead of Olympian Claire Weinstein (16:45.42).
This set the tone for the rest of the meet, as she would go on to win her remaining five individual events and three relays. Perhaps most impressive about Hardy’s weekend was the variety of events she swam, with individual wins in the 400 free (4:17.45), 100 back (1:03.87), 200 breast (2:35.47), 50 fly (28.22), and 200 fly (2:17.58). Her times in the 400 free and 200 breast were also good enough to qualify for the US Open, while the 200 fly gave her another event to swim at Summer Juniors.
Hardy carried this momentum to Futures two weeks later, once again at the FAST pool in Ocala. She tried a different arsenal of events, though she certainly wasn’t deterred by the new lineup. She doubled her US Open events from three to six, with cuts in the 800 free (8:46.03), 200 IM (2:17.20), and 400 IM (4:47.86), the latter of which she won by over five seconds. This puts her 18th all time among 13-14 year olds in the 400 IM, just behind Katie Grimes (4:47.58), who would go on to win an Olympic silver medal in that event.
While Hardy ultimately didn’t swim at Summer Juniors this year, she’ll have plenty of opportunities at that meet in the future. Perhaps she opted out because she couldn’t decide which of the eleven events she’s qualified in she would scratch. Regardless of her reason, it’s safe to say we’ll see her name soon, with her next big meet likely coming at either the US Open or Winter Juniors this December.
Other Highlights
14-year-old Caelan Tracy won five of his six events at FLAGS, sweeping the 200s of stroke, and tacking on wins in the 100 back and 400 IM. This was more than enough to win the men’s 13-14 year-old high point award, taking the victory by nine points. While Hardy took high point on the women’s side, Abigail Burke was still able to take home the win in four of her six events: the 50 free (26.30), 100 free (56.32), 200 free (2:04.26), and 200 IM (2:21.86). Like Hardy in the 400 IM, Burke is now 18th all time in the 100 free, though instead of being one spot behind a medalist, Burke is actually just ahead of one: two-time gold medalist Simone Manuel (56.34). Two 10 & under swimmers joined Hardy as the only swimmers to win in all six of their events: Solomia Fesenko on the women’s side, and Isen Wolfe on the men’s side. Fesenko swept the freestyle and butterfly events, while Wolfe won the 100 free, 200 free, 400 free, 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM. And, at just nine-years-old, Wolfe will have the chance to sweep the 10&U age group again at FLAGS next year.Read the full story on SwimSwam: Sydney Hardy Sweeps at FLAGS; Tallies Six US Open Cuts in July
