Carson Olson from Galesburg, Illinois, has committed to swim and study at McKendree University beginning in the fall of 2025. He told SwimSwam:
“I chose McKendree over other schools because I felt the family felt like a family, and it was close enough to home that my family could come to meets.”
Olson graduated from Galesburg High School, for whom he swam at the IHSA Boys’ State Championships. As a senior, he placed 9th in the 200 IM and 14th in the 100 fly, taking home PBs in the 50 fly (23.02), 100 fly (49.64), and 200 IM (1:51.95) along the way.
He does his club swimming with Piranhas Swim Club out of Bettendorf, Iowa. In March, he clocked a number of lifetime bests (10/100/200/500 free, 100 breast, and 200 IM) at the Illinois YMCA State Championships, where he placed among the top 8 in all his events. A month later he competed at the 2025 YMCA Short Course National Championships, finaling in the 100 back (17th) and 100 fly (19th) and lowering his PBs in the 50 back (23.78), 100 back (50.08), and 100 fly (49.51).
Olson kicked off the 2025 long course season with PBs in the 50 free (25.40) and 50 fly (26.50) at the David Armbruster Open. He wrapped up in July at Minneapolis Sectionals, where he hit a Winter Juniors cut of 56.43 in the 100 fly and swam 1:00.24/2:14.80 in the 100/200 back.

100 fly – 49.51 100 back – 50.08 200 IM – 1:51.95Olson will join the McKendree class of 2029 with Atticus Sternke, Brady Murdick, Keaton Tottle, Noah Brereton, and Phin Theall. The Bearcats finished 2nd to Drury by 35.5 points at the 2025 GLVC Championships before going on to place 3rd at the NCAA Division II Championships (which Drury also won). Olson’s best 100 back time would have scored at the conference meet; it took 49.31 in the 100 fly and 1:51.93 in the IM to get second swims.
