Rock icon ‘Heart’ to play Blue Arena this month ...Saudi Arabia

Heart, the 70s hard rock staple responsible for hits like “Barracuda” and “Magic Man,” is coming to Loveland as part of their Royal Flush Tour, stopping off at Blue Arena before appearing at Red Rocks the following evening.

“A band called Heart should be playing in a town called Loveland,” said Nancy Wilson, the rhythm guitarist for Heart, and one half of the Wilson sisters, the only two members of the band to remain throughout its entire commercial run.

The band will be touring off and on until March 2026, beginning this leg of the tour in Quincy, Wash., before moving on to San Francisco, through California and Arizona and then on to Colorado, playing two dates, one in Loveland on Aug. 18 and the next at Red Rocks on Aug. 19, before heading through the Midwest and ending in New York State.

“That’ll be a really beautiful place,” Wilson said of Red Rocks. “Can’t wait to play there again. Such a dreamy stage to play, you get to be outside. It’s hard to get enough fresh air when you’re travelling all the time. Sometimes it rains when you’re there, but it doesn’t matter, it’s gorgeous, it’s lovely to play there.”

A number of lineups have accompanied the sisters throughout their roughly 50-year run, which resulted in a variety of iterations of the band’s setlist.

“In different lineups of the band, different songs have been retired temporarily,” Wilson said. “But in this lineup, ‘Magic Men’ sounds completely cool. We do a faithful rendition, it has all the departures that the album version has. ‘Never’ was one of the ones that we put on the shelf for a while, but then we brought it back and said ‘Wait, this song really rocks with this lineup!’ So we’re doing Magic Men again, we’re doing ‘Never’ again. A lot of the fan favorites that we haven’t always done every single time.”

Wilson, enjoying some rest at home before the flurry of tour dates begins this Friday in Seattle, said that the tour was briefly put on hold after her sister and bandmate, lead singer Ann Wilson, battled cancer.

“She had to get some chemotherapy last year, and then we got back out,” Wilson said. “She kicked cancer’s ass, so we’ve been able to get back out and tour some more.”

The Wilson sisters have been making music together long before they were ever the core of an internationally recognized rock band.

“We were in music way before we had anything professional together,” “We were always singing and playing with little groups we made at schools and churches, even just singing around with the family, with ukuleles around the campfires, harmonizing in the car.”

Heart serves as a kind of pioneering act in hard rock, often perceived as a jocky, testosterone-fueled medium. Driving power-chords on songs like “Barracuda” placed the Wilson sisters firmly in the rock n’ roll pantheon while tender ballads like “Alone” exposed a more tender side.

Because they started playing together so early, the Wilson sisters set on their path before the broader society at the time was even aware enough to begin to tell them not to.

“We wanted to be the Beatles,” Wilson said. “We didn’t want to marry them or be their girlfriends, we wanted to be the Beatles. We were so inspired at such a young age, way before any kind of sexual identity kicked in. ‘Oh, girls aren’t supposed to do that.’ We just did it. We were aimed like pistols, to have a band and become songwriters, to have lights shining in our eyes. I think we came by it very honestly.”

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18, and tickets are still available at The Ranch’s website.
