The first day of school will soon come at school districts across Weld County.
In preparation for the 2025-26 school year, the Tribune has compiled a roundup of start dates and other back-to-school events in the county’s school districts.
This roundup does not include every event held in school districts ahead of the first day of school. For more information, families should go to their district or school’s website or contact a school official.
Weld RE-1
All K-12 students in Weld RE-1, serving the LaSalle, Gilcrest and Platteville communities, will start school Thursday, Aug. 7, according to a back-to-school announcement from Superintendent Kimberly Bloemen. Preschool students will have their first day of school Tuesday, Aug. 12.
The district will also host four back-to-school nights, allowing students to meet their teachers and visit classrooms before the new school year begins. These events include:
Gilcrest Elementary: 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 Platteville Elementary: 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 Pete Mirich Elementary: 4-6 p.m. Aug. 6 Valley Middle School: 5:30-7 p.m. Aug. 6“I look forward to a great year ahead filled with collaboration, growth, and achievement,” Bloemen said. “Let’s make it a strong year — Viking Strong, United as One.”
Eaton RE-2
Eaton middle and high school students will return Wednesday, Aug. 13, and elementary students will return Thursday, Aug. 14.
Kindergarten students at Eaton Elementary School and Benjamin Eaton Elementary School will have their first day of school Friday, Aug. 15
Weld RE-3J
Grades 1-12 in Weld RE-3J School District, which serves Keenesburg, Hudson and Lochbuie, will start school Monday, Aug. 11. Preschool and kindergarten start Tuesday, Aug. 12.
All schools in the district will host back-to-school nights Wednesday, Aug. 6.
Weld RE-4
The Weld RE-4 School District, which serves students in Windsor, Severance, and parts of Greeley, will bring kindergarten, sixth grade and ninth grade students in for the first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 13. First through fifth grade, seventh and eighth grade and 10th through 12th grade will start on Thursday, Aug. 14
Preschoolers start school Monday, Aug. 25.
The district will also have a new bell schedule for the 2025-26 school year: 7:30 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. for elementary, 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. for middle school and 8:55 a.m. to 4:05 p.m. for high school.
Weld RE-5J
The first semester for grades 1-12 in Weld RE-5J, which serves Milliken and Johnstown students, starts Monday, Aug. 11. Kindergarten begins Wednesday, Aug. 13.
The Weld RE-5J School District will host “OuR Launch,” a back-to-school event, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2 at Roosevelt Middle School.

Greeley-Evans School District 6
Greeley and Evans students in grades 1-12 start school Monday, Aug. 11. Preschool and kindergarten students will begin Thursday, Aug. 14.
Before the first day of school, District 6 will host the School Kickoff Community Celebration from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 2.
Platte Valley RE-7
Platte Valley School District in Kersey will begin classes Tuesday, Aug. 19.
The district invites families of sixth graders or new students to an event 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7. Elementary and middle school students can attend an open house 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15.

Ault-Highland RE-9
The Weld RE-9 School District, serving Ault, Pierce, Nunn and Carr communities, welcomes students back Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Back-to-school for high schoolers will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11. The schedule separates students by grade level:
12th grade: 8:30-9:30 a.m. 11th grade: 9:45-10:45 a.m. 10th grade: 12:30-1:30 p.m. ninth grade, paired with Open House: 3-6 p.m.Before classes resume, Highland Elementary School invites families to a back-to-school event from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7.
Briggsdale RE-10
Briggsdale students will start school Tuesday, Aug. 12, and the district will host a back-to-school night from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6.
Prairie RE-11
Prairie School District in New Raymer will welcome grades 6-12 back to school Tuesday, Aug. 12, and grades K-5 back Monday, Aug. 18.
Pawnee RE-12
Classes start Wednesday, Aug. 13 in the Pawnee RE-12 School District, located in Grover. Preschool starts Tuesday, Aug. 19.
