CUBS LINEUP — Come on, Cubs. Do not get swept by the Brewers. Not right now. Not when you had Shota Imanaga and Matthew Boyd set up to pitch in this series. Get it done today. And give us some positivity heading into the most critical MLB Trade Deadline for the team since 2021 (…albeit for very different reasons).
Here’s a look at the Chicago Cubs lineup for the finale agianst the Brewers in Milwaukee.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
Michael Busch, 1B Kyle Tucker, RF Seiya Suzuki, LF Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF Carson Kelly, C Nico Hoerner, 2B Moises Ballesteros, DH Dansby Swanson, SS Matt Shaw, 3BGood on the Cubs for acting quickly to get a better bat than anyone they had on the bench up today in place of the injured (but not on the injured list!) Ian Happ.
Moises Ballesteros didn’t do much in his brief cup of coffee earlier this season (just three hits, all singles, and two walks), but he’s definitely a hitter. The 21-year-old catcher/DH is slashing .332/.393/.496 (128 wRC+) at Iowa this year, all while striking out just 12.9% of the time. The Cubs could use a little jolt, and while we still hope that’ll come from the deadline, maybe Ballesteros can add a little energy for today.
With Ballesteros up and at DH, Seiya Suzuki heads out to left field for Happ.
Milwaukee Brewers Lineup:
TBAPitching Matchup:
Chicago Cubs: Shota Imanaga, LHP
Shota Imanaga’s last start was the second-worst of his career by Game Score, and arguably the worst when you consider the opponent (White Sox). In that game, he allowed 7 runs to score on 12 hits, including three homers. Troublingly, his velocity was down and his command was not sharp. But it’s all the more confusing, becaues he had been absolutely NAILS against two far better teams just before that:
@BOS: 7.0 IP, 5H, 0ER, 1BB, 5K@NYY: 7.0 IP, 2H, 1ER, 1BB, 6K
And was generally quite good in the three starts before that (which were his first three starts off the IL). It just kinda came out of nowhere.
For what it’s worth, something similar happened to Imanaga last season, when he allowed 10ER in 3.0 innings against the Mets. He followed that up, though, by pitching to a 2.86 ERA over his next 15 starts. I’d like to see that happen again, please and thanks.
Milwaukee Brewers: Freddy Peralta, RHP
Unfortunately, Freddy Peralta is having arguably the best season of his career, with a 2.81 ERA over his 22 starts (121.2 IP). And that comes with a 26.1% strikeout rate, an 8.4% walk rate, and just a 35.3% hard-hit rate.
He’s not unbeatable, though.
The Dodgers tagged him for four runs over 5.0 innings just two games ago, and the Cubs plated three runs in 5.0 IP in the middle of June (including homers from PCA and Dansby Swanson).
