Turkish Airlines announced the resumption of its flights from Istanbul Airport to Aleppo International Airport starting from August 1.
In a statement reported by the Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency on Monday, July 28, the airline stated that there will be daily flights from Istanbul to Aleppo, Syria’s second-largest city by population.
To mark the resumption of flights, round-trip ticket prices will start at $299, according to the announcement.
The first flight will depart Istanbul Airport at 08:10, with a flight duration of just two hours aboard a Boeing 737-900.
As of today, all seats on flight TK844, both economy and business class, have been booked, according to the Turkish Airlines website.
While Turkish Airlines does operate flights to Syria, Enab Baladi has observed that the airline imposes strict additional inspection procedures.
On July 17, Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Ghareeb announced that several airlines would resume their flights to Aleppo starting in August.
Al-Ghareeb said via his official Instagram page that Turkish Airlines will resume its daily flights between Istanbul and Aleppo on August 1, while Turkish company AJet will begin its daily flights on August 2.
Additionally, Qatar Airways will launch daily flights to Aleppo starting August 10.
Al-Ghareeb added, “The northern gateway of Syria reopens to the world, and Aleppo is once again welcoming its people and admirers from everywhere.”
Royal Jordanian Airlines had already resumed its flights from Queen Alia International Airport to Aleppo International Airport in June.
Investments at Aleppo Airport
On June 25, the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority offered a series of public tenders for investing in various services and facilities at Aleppo International Airport, according to technical, financial, and legal conditions specific to each service.
The Authority stressed the importance for interested investors to review and obtain the terms of reference for each tender, either at Aleppo Airport itself or at the new building of the Civil Aviation Authority, located at the entrance of Damascus International Airport. The statement emphasized the need to carefully review the technical, financial, and legal requirements for each project.
Aleppo International Airport was officially rehabilitated after a suspension of over three months following the fall of the regime, with the first domestic flight landing on March 18.
