University of Northern Colorado women's soccer recruit Evangelina Arocho plays with the Puerto Rico U-20 National Team and she's with the squad as of Feb. 2025 for U-20 World Cup qualifying matches in the Dominican Republic. (University of Northern Colorado Athletics).Yarnell scored a goal last year. She played in all 19 matches and started 13.
One of the new players is freshman Evangelina Arocho, a forward from Jacksonville, Florida. Arocho has played for Puerto Rico in U17 and U20 international tournaments.
Arocho’s international experience includes representing Puerto Rico at events for the Confederation of North America, Central America and Caribbean Association Football. It’s one of six continental confederations recognized by FIFA, the international soccer governing body.
Earlier this year, Barrera called Arocho “a unique recruit” to join the program. The coach described Arocho as “a player who likes the ball” and said she might lean more to being a playmaker than goal scorer.
She scored a total of 18 goals and recorded nine assists in her junior and senior seasons at Atlantic Coast High School in Jacksonville.
“She’s versatile,” Barrera said this winter. “She can play wide. She can play in the middle. She played in all of those spots. We just know she’s a versatile player that’s going to get better.”
