ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police say they closed an open-air drug market on Burbank Street as apart of their efforts to address crime in the North Clinton Avenue corridor.
In a press conference Wednesday, the Rochester Police Department and Mayor Malik Evans discussed their new initiatives, which began after an officer-involved shooting on June 22.

On Friday, the Community Affairs Bureau, alongside the Department of Environmental Services, cleared out an open-air drug market on Burbank Street police say was tied to a nearby drug house.
That same nearby drug house was recently the subject of a search warrant by Special Investigation Section and SWAT Team, where a rifle, fentanyl and cocaine were recovered.
Chief David Smith at the press conference said they have always had extra enforcement in the area, but the shooting on Sunday caused them to take more aggressive steps by doing more patrols, meeting more with community members, and listening to people working and living in the area.
Mayor Evans encouraged anyone in the community to contact police about illegal activity, and if they see a drug house to call 911.
