Work on what will be Greece’s tallest building, the Riviera Tower, has surpassed the halfway mark, reaching 113m towards its final 200m height.

Twice as tall as Greece’s current tallest building – the 103m-tall Athens Tower 1, finished in 1971 – the 50-storey Riviera will have 169 apartments with between one and five bedrooms.

Located to the south of Athens on the coastal site of the former Ellinikon International Airport, the tower is part of The Ellinikon urban development scheme.

It’s being developed by Lamda Development, with the UK’s Foster + Partners as architect, Bouygues working with Greece’s Intrakat as joint contractors, Mace and Jacobs as project managers and Hill International as supervisor.

The tower has been LEED Gold Pre-Certified.

In 2023, Mace said it oversaw Greece’s “single biggest concrete pour” for the Riviera Tower’s foundations, taking place continuously over 38 hours featuring over 7,000 cubic metres of a formulated concrete mix with 70% less cement used than in typical concrete.

The Riviera Tower is one of four towers planned for The Ellinikon, billed as the biggest greenfield urban regeneration project in Europe.

The tower is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2026, as part of The Ellinikon’s first phase.
