UEFA Women’s EURO 2025: odds and favourites ...Middle East

Sport by : (talksport) -

The UEFA European Women’s Championship 2025 is a 16-team tournament featuring the best national teams from across the continent. It will be held across eight different stadiums in Switzerland between July 2 and July 27.

This is the 14th edition of a tournament which began in 1984. It is the third iteration to contain 16 sides, having been a 12-team event up to 2013 (and smaller before that). The likes of Spain and England, who are the most recent World and Euros champions, are among the favourites to lift the trophy, but the event no doubt has a few surprises in store.

Here is your must-read guide to the Women’s Euros, one of the biggest sporting events of the summer.

Women’s Euros odds and favourites to win

It is time to take a look at the favourites to triumph at the upcoming event using the latest UEFA Women’s Euros betting odds. Here are the five sides widely fancied to be there or thereabouts.

Spain

Spain remain the team to beat in the women’s game. World Cup winners in 2023, la Roja were also victorious at the 2024 Nations League. Spain are blessed with a supremely talented squad, including the reigning Ballon d’Or holder Aitana Bonmatí and former winner Alexia Putellas.

The group stage draw was kinder to Spain than some of the other contenders for the crown, and they’ve already made light work of Iberian neighbours Portugal and Belgium in their opening two games. Spain deserve to be favourites.

France

France are desperate to finally win a major trophy in the women’s game, and they are certainly in with a chance of doing so this summer. There is no shortage of talent within the ranks, with France perhaps the strongest side in the world in transition.

Laurent Bonadei has left out some big names, a decision which he has in effect staked his reputation on. But France are in good shape and they will give all their opponents plenty to think about.

They played at an intensity England couldn’t cope with in their matchday 1 clash on Saturday – with the 2-1 win elevating Les Bleues up to third-favourite at the time, and putting The Lionesses at risk of early elimination.

They then comfortably dispatched Wales 4-1 in their second game and have all but qualified for the last 16, barring a dramatic set of results in matchday 3.

Germany

Germany were once utterly dominant on this stage, winning eight of nine editions between 1989 and 2013. However, the rest of Europe has caught up over the last decade, leaving Germany with work to do to regain their supremacy.

Could it happen this summer? They’ve started with two wins against Poland and Denmark, keeping them firmly in the top four teams according to betting markets. However, there are question marks over whether this team has what it takes to beat a Spain or an England in a do-or-die encounter.

England

England are the holders following their success on home soil in the last edition of this tournament. They no longer have home advantage to call upon, however, and their form has been patchy to say the least over the last few months.

After being totally second best to France in their Group D opener, Sarina Wiegman’s side produced a near-perfect performance under pressure against her native Netherlands on Wednesday to keep their title defence alive.

The Lionesses may still face early elimination if they don’t follow the 4-0 win up against Wales. The Dragons, however, are tournament debutants and have already suffered two heavy defeats so far. England know a win will be enough to qualify and they could still win the group if France were to lose to the Netherlands.

Sweden

It was perhaps surprising to see Blågult outside the top five in the bookies’ odds coming into the tournament given their FIFA ranking of 6th and their semi-final appearance three years ago.

They did, however, need a playoff to emerge from a very tough qualifying section along with France and England, and have now been put into a group with Germany for their troubles.

A dominant 3-0 win over Poland in their second game, following up a 1-0 victory over Denmark has not only secured them qualification with a game to spare, they are in pole position to top Group C ahead of the Germans.

Format of the 2025 Women’s Euros

When it started out in 1984, the Women’s Euros only featured four teams. It expanded to eight sides in 1997, then again to 12 in 2009. In 2017 it was enlarged to 16 teams and remains that way today.

But how did those 16 teams get here and what are they fighting for over the next few weeks? Let’s turn our attention to the format of this competition, starting with the qualification process.

How do teams qualify for the Women’s Euros?

Switzerland were awarded a place at the Women’s Euros as hosts of the tournament, while the other 15 sides had to go through the usual qualification process.

Of those, Germany, Spain, Iceland, Denmark, France, England, Italy and the Netherlands qualified by finishing in the top two of their group. Portugal, Poland, Norway, Finland, Wales, Belgium and Sweden booked their place via the play-offs.

What is the format of the Women’s Euros?

The format of the Women’s Euros involves 16 teams being divided into four groups of four, as you can see in the tables above. The knockout stage features the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the Women’s Euros final.

What is the Women’s Euros winner prize money?

There is a total prize fund of €41m for the Women’s Euros. That is the largest amount ever dedicated to the competition, although it pales in comparison with the €1 billion split between the 32 men’s teams who are competing at the Club World Cup.

Each national team is guaranteed €1.8m for taking part this summer, with further money on offer for every win and draw.

Stadiums for the 2025 Women’s Euros

Conclusion: Who will win the Women’s Euros 2025?

The Women’s Euros is one of the highlights of the sporting summer and the whole of the continent will be following the tournament closely over the next few weeks.

Which set of supporters will be celebrating on the evening of July 27? Spain are the favourites for a reason and it is hard to look past la Roja following their success at the World Cup in 2023 and the Nations League in 2024.

England will have arrived in Switzerland with the belief that they can go all the way, although Wiegman’s women face an uphill battle after their defeat to France. Les Bleues themselves do look impressive and will be fancying their chances of ending their wait for a trophy. Germany will likely be in the conversation too.

Spain must show they can deal with the pressure, but they are our pick to get their hands on the trophy.
