The "humble" musician was chosen to receive the honor during this year's Academy of Country Music Honors ceremony later this summer. According to the academy, the rapper-turned-country star was voted for the award by a special board of directors and was chosen because he "is devoted to improving lives through the power of music, has a generosity of spirit, and is committed to serving others."
"He donated $1 from every ticket sold on his Backroad Baptism Tour, raising over $600,000 for at-risk youth, plus has visited over 10 juvenile facilities, 4 rehabilitation centers, and numerous homeless shelters to use his growing platform as a beacon of hope and resilience. On the national level, he testified before Congress to advocate for the need for mental health treatment and readily available resources to combat the fentanyl crisis."
