It is almost time for the big IND vs ENG clash at the Lord’s, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. A win at this venue could just decide the fate of series, and India and England wouldn’t want to miss that opportunity. But after two heavy-scoring venues, Lord’s could just be little different, from what we have witnessed so far.
The Jofra Archer Factor at Lord’s
It’s a venue that promises to offer an even contest to the bat and the ball, notwithstanding the conditions overhead. The pacers could be rewarded handsomely for testing lines, a feature that was missing at Leeds, and somewhat at Edgbaston too. And that is why the hosts have confirmed brought in Jofra Archer, who will be playing his first Test since 2021.
Two Spinners, Or One?
Nonetheless, it could be a cracker of a contest, and India would like to go with just one spinner — in either Ravindra Jadeja, or Washington Sundar. Traditionally, there isn’t much help on offer for the slower bowlers, and two spinners might just turn out to be a bad ploy. Instead, India would like to rope in an extra batter; who that is, is a different debate.

— BCCI (@BCCI) July 9, 2025That also means, Mohammed Siraj could once again get a green signal, despite having bowled over 70 overs in the series. Shubman Gill might be tempted to give him another go, before he is given a break at Old Trafford. That means India’s pace battery could look like — Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, and Siraj.
Last Chance for Karun Nair
Batting front looks sorted with KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant, all in fine nick. The only exception to an otherwise solid batting has been, Karun Nair. He has scored 0, 20, 31 and 26 till now, and has left a lot to be desired. So, Lord’s might just be his last chance in this series, at least.
Rest, it’s a ground where India have won three matches — 2021’s 151 run victory being the latest. It is also a venue where they have lost 12. So, to have any pre-conceived notions at this venue, is futile. In short, it’s a pitch that will be suitable for bowling, and batting would only become easy in third day. So India would want to bat second, for a change.
