Tuesday horse racing tips
PONTEFRACT3.10: Soprano 5/2 (1.5pts)3.40: City House 9/1 each-way (1pt) UTTOXETER6.30: Rock House 7/1 each-way (1pt)7.30: Wbee 13/2 each-way (1pt)Soprano
This listed fillies contest, the Pipalong Stakes, is a fascinating one over 1m.
Soprano is just about the favourite at the time of writing, but she has to carry 3lb more than her rivals including the higher-rated Sparks Fly.
Soprano has had some great consistent form from 2024 onwards apart from maybe two runs which she didn’t seem to go well in, including her latest run at Royal Ascot.
But she’s been right up there or there abouts including in top races like the Group 1 Matron Stakes at Leopardstown back in September.
Sparks Fly likes to win a few in a row, but she’s been just off the pace in her last two runs including at the Derby festival at Epsom last month and she crucially also needs softer ground.
Charlotte’s Web is dangerously unexposed but hasn’t really proven her form enough on turf to suggest she poses a risk.
And though she is the favourite carrying 3lb, Soprano looks like the smart option here.
City House
Rohaan is a seven-year-old has a huge amount of experience including as many as 59 races, this being his 60th.
Out of that many he’s picked up ten wins, five 2nd places and three 3rd places.
He’s been kept at this weight by the handicappers as it’s still a dangerous mark for him having been 90-rated just six months ago.
I can’t see the appeal of a few of these rivals apart from one.
City House may get ruled out by some for being by far the top-weight, rated 10lb higher than his closest rival.
But he does have the form to suggest that he can handle these rivals in a very different kind of Class 2 handicap to the one he faced at Royal Ascot.
Rock House
Some strong cases can be made for both Ballytechno and Sovereign Star.
But I can see Rock House for Harry and Dan Skelton also making big strides forward over fences.
He was only fourth last time out on his second chase start but that was dropping back down to 2m.
Whereas his close third place finish behind Idy Wood in March was also over 2m4f which he goes back to here.
He’s also now got the tongue-tie to go along with the cheekpieces, the first time he’s had this equipment combo and I think he’s going to be tougher this time around.
Wbee
Would love to back Ile De Jersey but the Owners Group mare is now stepping into a really tough contest up against some strong geldings, while also stepping up in trip which means she really needs more to win this.
She’s understandably the favourite though as if she thrives over this new trip she could be tough to beat too.
Wbee appeals for a few reasons while also being a nice price to attract support for now.
He returned off a long break to place third and was even upped 2lb for that placed effort over an extended 3m1f contest at Cartmel.
That showed he was past his poor efforts at Uttoxeter in the summer last year and can hopefully go well again, bouncing back to a win for the first time since 2022.
A large reason he’s not won since then is his combined 958 days off since August 2022 so it’s key not to read too much into that winless run.
