Perhaps Nick Kyrgios was right all along.
The Australian tennis star made headlines when he suggested Jannik Sinner will have a better career than Carlos Alcaraz because the Spaniard ‘likes girls’ and ‘might party too much’.
Kyrgios felt Alcaraz indulged in off-court fun more than his arch rival SinnertalkSPORTBut Alcaraz clapped back at Kyrgios’ funny comments’ by claiming it was ‘no secret’ Sinner ‘has fewer ups and downs’ than him.
Alcaraz also pointed out his supposed volatility ‘has nothing to do with the nightlife world’.
Despite Alcaraz’s denials, Kyrgios believed the Spanish superstar ‘knows deep down’ he enjoys the extras that comes with the territory of being one of the best in the world.
However, Alcaraz is superior in that he knows how to balance his off-court fun with remaining focused on the court, something Kyrgios battled with.
“Maybe I’m a bit outlandish with my comments, but I’m not lying,” Kyrgios said on talkSPORT Breakfast.
“See, Alcaraz knows deep down he does like a bit of partying, does like some girls. That’s his personality.
“But look, he does a great job at finding that balance, maybe where I didn’t find the balance earlier on in my career.
“He’s a great character and a great personality.
“I’ll always be making headlines on and off the court, that’s for sure.”
Although Alcaraz may have been keen to shrug off any party boy tags, a Netflix documentary centred around the Spaniard painted a slightly different picture.
The Spaniard conceded he is more up-and-down than Sinner, but not due to partyingAFPAlcaraz chose to spend a three-day holiday in Ibiza after he lost to Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of the 2023 French Open.
“I wanted to go there basically to just get wasted,” Alcaraz said in the documentary.
It may have worked a charm given Alcaraz went on win at Queen’s and Wimbledon in the following weeks.
“I’m not saying partying helped me win, but taking that time off was good for me,” Alcaraz said.
Alcaraz returned to the Spanish party island after he overcame Sinner in an instant classic at this year’s French Open.
However, it was a far tamer affair than what unfolded in 2023 as Alcaraz revealed the trip only got as wild as a ‘few shots’.
Alcaraz is hoping to win back-to-back grand slam titles and his third-straight Wimbledon crownGetty“It doesn’t matter the place you’re going,” Alcaraz said.
“It’s time to turn off your mind a little bit, to refresh physically, mentally and coming back to the grass season as good as I can.
“It was great to disconnect from everything and have fun.”
