ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man accused of intentionally driving his car into a Rochester Police cruiser in June, sending an officer to the hospital, is facing more charges.
A grand jury indicted Markel Taylor on charges of aggravated assault upon a police officer, criminal obstruction of breathing, and resisting arrest. That’s in addition to charges of assault, attempted burglary, criminal contempt, and resisting arrest, which RPD already announced.
The crash happened on Sunday, June 15, around Third Street and Central Park while police were responding to a domestic call. Police say that, earlier in the day, Taylor hit and threatened to kill someone and violated a court-issued Order of Protection.
According to police, Taylor later returned and drove his Ford sedan at an officer’s car. The officer tried to back away, but police say Taylor hit the cruiser head-on. The officer was rushed to Rochester General Hospital with a head injury and later released.
