The expanded Club World Cup is well underway, with the remaining eight teams readying themselves for the quarter-finals.
The battle for the trophy is the main event, but it will also be intriguing to watch the race to finish as the tournament’s top scorer.
Some of the world’s best attackers are on display in the USA, but who will finish as the leading goal-getter?
Manchester City’s shock elimination has shaken up the betting market for the Golden Boot as we now know none of their players can take the trophy home. Ángel Di María still leads the way with four goals at the time of writing but, with Benfica playing no further part, it is perhaps the Bayern Munich players – particularly Harry Kane – who are now in pole position.

Club World Cup Top Scorer – Favourites
Ángel Di María
The outgoing Benfica winger has been reinstated at the top of bookies’ odds following the conclusion of the round of 16 ties. Even though the Portuguese club were eliminated by Chelsea, Di María’s four goals still have him ahead of the rest in the scoring charts.
That extra time defeat to the Londoners was Di María’s last game for As Águias before heading home to boyhood club Rosario Central. With many big names either also exiting the competition or lagging behind, however, there is a chance he may still end up with one last personal trophy from his glittering career in Europe.
Bet on Ángel Di María to hold onto top spot in the CWC scoring charts at 3/1 with bet365
Harry Kane
Fresh from winning the first trophy of his career in the form of the Bundesliga title, Harry Kane will be eyeing another piece of silverware this summer.
The Bayern Munich frontman, surprisingly, wasn’t among the numerous scorers against Auckland, and he would only find the net once in the group stage – that coming against Boca Juniors in matchday 2.
Following a brace against Flamengo on Sunday, however, he has now drawn level with the likes of Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala in Bayern’s own scoring charts so far – and you’d fully expect him to re-assume the role of leading marksman for however long they remain in the tournament. His chances have been boosted further with Erling Haaland, and the rest of Man City’s squad, heading home.
Kane’s odds have slashed from as long as 16/1 at one point, to 4/1 now.
Back Harry Kane to win the race for top goalscorer at the Club World Cup at 4/1 with SBK
Marcos Leonardo
Al-Hilal’s run to the quarter-finals has been all the more impressive given they’ve been without prolific marksman Aleksandar Mitrović. In his absence, 22-year-old Brazilian Marcos Leonardo has really stepped up.
Leonardo only finished a couple of goals behind the Serbian striker in his debut season since joining from Benfica, with 17 strikes in 24 Saudi Pro League games. His winner against Manchester City will likely live on as the most famous moment in Saudi and Asian club football for many years.
With Fluminese up next, there’s a chance a red-hot Leonardo can continue firing and Al-Hilal may be looking at a potential semi-final.
Tip Marcos Leonardo to win the Golden Boot at the Club World Cup at 6/1 with Tote
Michael Olise
After Bayern Munich’s 10-0 rout of semi-professional outfit Auckland City in matchday 1, several of their players were able to surge ahead in the Golden Boot race.
Jamal Musiala bagged a hat trick against the Kiwis, while veteran striker Thomas Müller and French playmakers Kingsley Coman and Michael Olise helped themselves to two each.
Olise has shone in his debut season in Germany, following his move from Crystal Palace last summer, with 30 goal involvements in 34 Bundesliga games and a further seven in the Champions League. The London-born winger also scored a crucial late winner against Boca Juniors.
This is perhaps why the bookies are backing Olise, ahead of all his Bayern teammates not named Harry Kane, to keep his hot streak going.

Club World Cup Top Scorer – Outsiders
Gonzalo García
You’d have probably got long odds on the relatively unknown García leading the Los Blancos charge at the Club World Cup, ahead of Vincius Junior et al. The 21-year-old, however, who only has five La Liga appearances for the senior side to his name, has looked the part amongst all the established stars.
García would’ve come into this summer brimming with confidence after scoring 25 goals for Real Madrid’s B team – Real Madrid Castilla – last season – and he’s found the net three times in four games here, including the crucial winner against Juventus in the last 16.
With time running out for his teammates to catch up, García is now being priced at around 8/1 to top-score the tournament. Kylian Mbappé only got his first minutes as a substitute against Juve – he’s been sidelined with acute gastroenteritis – and Vini Jr and Jude Bellingham have only managed one goal apiece so far.
Tip Gonzalo García to finish the tournament as top scorer at 8/1 with BetMGM
Pedro Neto
The Portuguese winger has quietly crept back into contention after scoring one of the three extra time goals which got Chelsea over the line against Benfica, adding to his strikes against LA FC and Flamengo.
Neto has never been prolific. In fact, he’s more of a provider. Chelsea spent £54m on him following a season of 12 Premier League assists for Wolves. This is perhaps why the bookies don’t rate his chances of taking home the Golden Boot as highly as most others with three goals to their name.
It’s worth considering, however, that Chelsea will be facing Palmeiras in their quarter-final, who aren’t one of the tournament favourites. Neto has a good chance of featuring in at least two more games, although, after Monday night’s results, nothing is a given in this tournament.
Back Pedro Neto to top the scoring charts at the CWC top scorer at 13/1 with SBK
Serhou Guirassy
There have been fewer deadlier strikers on the planet than Serhou Guirassy over the past two seasons.
After a remarkable 28 goals in 28 games for Stuttgart in 2023/24, Dortmund stumped up €18m to bring the Guinean to the Signal Iduna Park. It has proven to be one of the bargains of the last few years as Guirassy continued right from where he left off with a further 21 Bundesliga goals but also 13 in the Champions League – splitting the Golden Boot with Barcelona’s Raphinha.
Having bagged a brace against Monterrey in the last 16, Guirassy joins a number of players on three goals in the States. BVB will not be fancied to extend their stay beyond the quarters however, where they will meet Real Madrid – one year on from their Champions League final clash, which the Spanish giants won.
Bet on Serhou Guirassy to take home the Golden Boot from the CWC at 12/1 with Puntit
Jamal Musiala
Another of Bayern’s playmakers, Jamal Musiala netted a joint career-high 12 Bundesliga goals this season just finished and opened the Club World Cup with a treble against Auckland.
He then sat out the final group game against Benfica with a calf injury, with the German giants already safely through to the last 16, before returning (from the bench) for Bayern’s clash with Flamengo.
Bookies expect it to be a struggle for Musiala to outscore some of his teammates, particularly Harry Kane, in the latter stages of the tournament – as well as those leading the line for other contending teams.
Bet on Jamal Musiala to finish the Club World Cup as top scorer at 20/1 with Tote
