‘Doesn’t make sense’ – Shedeur Sanders plan mocked as new quarterback strategy emerges for Cleveland Browns ...Middle East

The Cleveland Browns may already be eyeing Shedeur Sanders’ replacement before giving him a fair crack.

Originally touted as a first-round pick, the son of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion ended up sliding all the way into the fifth round.

Sanders is fighting for his future in the NFL

Cleveland eventually swooped to end his wait, picking up a problem in the process with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and third-round pick Dillon Gabriel already in a crowded QB room.

That’s before injured $230 million deadweight Deshaun Watson, who has reportedly emerged as a mentor for Sanders, is taken into account.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski is presiding over a four-way battle for a starting job, with veteran Flacco the presumed leader heading into this month’s training camp.

But Shedeur — fourth on the depth chart — hasn’t been given many first-team reps despite posting impressive numbers when given a shot.

Tyvis Powell, who spent four years in the NFL and had a stint in Cleveland, cannot understand the team’s logic.

“The day that Joe Flacco sat out and you only had three quarterbacks,” he said on The Bullpen. “The fact that this man couldn’t get a rep with the ones, it’s mind-boggling to me.

“Kenny Pickett I get, you traded a pick for him, he’s a first-round pick, you have a relationship with him. Cool. Even DIllon Gabriel, you took him in the third round, you wanna see what he can do with the first team. OK, cool.

“Shedeur is lighting it up in practice every day — you’re not even a half bit curious to see what he could do with the ones? That makes no sense.”

Powell spent plenty of time in locker rooms before leaving the league in 2020 and thinks Stefanski should be more in tune with his stars.

“On top of all of that, you’ve got players going on podcasts and talking to people in the media and saying, ‘This guy is really good. Like, this guy is legit.’ So even your peers respect you,” he added. “How is it that the coaches can’t see that?

“It always starts with the players and next thing you know, you’ve earned a chance to be with the ones.

“This guy is coming in and he’s commanding the huddle, making plays, how do you not wanna see that?”

There have been suggestions that Stefanski wasn’t keen to deal with all the drama that having the son of Deion Sanders fighting for a roster spot would bring.

And the Browns coach has already been linked with a top prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Penn State QB Drew Allar has the chance to put himself in the conversation as the No.1 pick.

And with the bookies handing Cleveland a league-low win total over-under of 4.5, Stefanski may have all the capital he needs to land him.

“If Allar can build on what he did last season in 2025, he could be the first quarterback selected. The Browns are a very realistic destination if they stink as much as many expect,” suggested NFL writer Mike Moraitis via Marca.

After several high-profile misses, a franchise quarterback is depserately needed for the Browns.

But the team has at least locked down a world-class venue for the foreseeable future.

Franchise bosses have made clear their desire to build a state-of-the-art, $2.4billion stadium that would see the team move out of downtown Cleveland.

The Browns have played at a waterfront site, where Huntington Bank Field sits, for 80 years.

But last week, the Ohio legislature cleared the way for the team to turn their suburban Brook Park indoor stadium dreams into reality.

The state Senate and House of Representatives separately approved a budget that includes $600 million for the new facility, to be built about 15 minutes southwest of the current home field in downtown Cleveland.

According to The Athletic, the budget includes a new Sports and Culture Facility Fund, which will take $1.7 billion from the state’s $4.8 billion in unclaimed funds.

Per a report from Crain’s Cleveland Business, the Browns on Friday officially bought the 176-acre Brook Park land, where they plan to build their stadium and entertainment complex, for $76 million.

The Haslam Sports Group had pledged $1.2 billion in private funding, plus potential overruns, towards the $2.4 billion cost of the project.

It will open in time for the 2029 season. Deciding who will be the quarterback by then is another matter.

Knowing the Browns, we could see plenty of men given a tryout in that time.
