Luke Humphries has revealed he battled through a freak injury to get off to a winning start at the US Masters.
The world number one beat Stowe Buntz in the first round of the 16-person tournament, but he was far from convincing.
Humphries was far from his best in hos opening round winAnd after the 6-4 win, ‘Cool Hand’ revealed that a fan accidentally hurt him as he was walking onto the stage.
As ‘I Predict A Riot’ played, a fan in the crowd at New York grabbed Humphries’ thumb.
Speaking after his win, Humphries revealed he was in pain throughout the entirety of the match.
He said: “On the walk-on, of course, that guy pulled my thumb back and it really hurt.
“It affected my performance, but I tried my best to come back from that.
“That thing stays in your head, it does, it affected my performance but Stowe played really well, to be honest.
“He hit a couple of good finishes there and kind of pushed me out the game a little bit but he managed to give it away in the end.
“And in those last two legs he almost sort of gave me the game so I’m very fortunate to get over the line really.”
It remains to be seen if the thumb injury is serious.
The fact he carried on suggest that he should be fine for his second round outing.

The 2025 Premier League champion is facing Danny Lauby.
Lauby is into the second round after beating 2024 champion Rob Cross 6-0.
Humphries is bidding to win the US masters for the first time, with his best performance coming last year when he reached the quarter-finals.
Commenting on what lifting the title would mean to him, he remarked: “It would mean the world.
“It is definitely the world series tournament I have always wanted to win.

“It’s in America, the Big Apple and the one that everyone wants to be a part of.
“If you are winning titles in America something great is happening. Whether you win NFL’s or MLBs.
“Now I will relax. There is nothing to lose now that I have made the second day. I have Danny next.
“The crowd will be on his side, and he played really well earlier. So it will be a good prospect for us both.”
But if Humphries is to win, he might have to get past his rival Luke Littler.
The Nuke has made it to the quarter-finals, where he will play Nathan Aspinall.
Michael van Gerwen is also through after returning to action following his divorce.
As for Gerwyn Price and Damon Heta, they are also into the last eight.
