Australia replaced the struggling Marnus Labuschagne with Sam Konstas for the first Test, but the move hasn’t paid off. Konstas scored only eight runs across both innings. It’s worth mentioning that the right-handed batter was dismissed by Shamar Joseph in both innings of the series opener in Barbados.

Konstas, who had been dropped from Australia’s playing XI for the Test series in Sri Lanka and the World Test Championship final at Lord’s, made his return for the opening Test in the West Indies. Konstas had impressed fans with his fearless 60-run innings off 65 balls against India on Boxing Day.

Ahead of the first Test, Shamar Joseph issued a warning to Sam Konstas, saying, “Just look out, that’s all.” Konstas returned to the Test squad after making his debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy six months ago.

“He’s had a terrible year since he went through us at the Gabba. Shamar has come out today and said ’just look out and watch what is coming’. Ok Shamar, well, you’ve delivered crap all year."

West Indies Bowled Out for 190 in First Innings

Earlier on Day 2, West Indies batters Roston Chase and Shai Hope added a crucial 67-run partnership. Chase survived an LBW appeal on 1 and was dropped by Sam Konstas on 4. He was dismissed for 44 in controversial fashion, upset after being given out to Pat Cummins despite appearing to edge the ball.

Australia’s pace trio, Mitchell Starc (3/65), Josh Hazlewood (2/34), and Pat Cummins (2/34), maintained consistent pressure, with Nathan Lyon claiming the final wicket by dismissing Jayden Seales, who mistimed a slog to the deep.
