Komatsu Smart Construction reports 44% surge in demand ...Middle East

News by : (GCR) -
Smart Construction, the digital arm of Japanese machinery maker Komatsu, has reported a 44% year-on-year increase in the use of its software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering, and the doubling of its headcount, from 2023 to 2024.

Senior commercial manager Bart Vingerhoets said the last financial year had been “pivotal”.

Following a 30% increase in users of its Remote product, the company said a Remote license will be included as standard with all purchases of Komatsu-branded guidance and control systems, including for the new PC220LCi-12 excavator.

Remote gives users remote control of Komatsu and non-Komatsu machine guidance and control systems.

The company also relaunched its drone surveying-assistant, Edge, now in its seventh version.

It uses an AI algorithm to automatically remove buildings, equipment and vegetation from the 3D point cloud it processes from the drone footage, delivering a clearer 3D representation of the site so users can calculate site progress better.

Smart Construction was created by Komatsu with Sony Semiconductors, NTT Communication and Nomura Research Institute to digitalise construction machinery for better productivity.
