All eyes are on the original cast members of Blue Bloods to see if any will be making the trip to Boston to appear on the upcoming Donnie Wahlberg-led spinoff, Boston Blue.
Wahlberg, 55, has dropped several hints that the Reagan family will potentially be making appearances on the show, including Tom Selleck. While Blue Bloods was set in New York City and followed the lives of the NYPD’s finest, Boston Blue will see Wahlberg take a position at Boston PD and as he starts a new life chapter.
“New York and Boston are really close,” Wahlberg said of the likelihood of having Selleck, 80, make a cameo on the CBS series while speaking with Parade on Monday, June 23. “They’re not that far apart.”
Wahlberg was asked if it was possible to incorporate Selleck and other Blue Bloods cast members via Zoom or FaceTime in addition to making possible, periodic in-person appearances. The original police procedural drama also starred Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Vanessa Ray, Steve Schirripa, Len Cariou, Marisa Ramirez and Abigail Hawk.

“I can’t give you the exact reason why today, because that would be a big spoiler,” the actor teased. “But I would say this, as family-oriented as Danny is, he’s also always marched to the beat of his own drum. I think those two things can be true at the same time. He can march to the beat of his own drum, and it can still be about family.”
Danny hinted during the season 14 Blue Bloods finale that he was looking to make a change in his life. The character made a comment about not having anyone to come home to at the end of the day. He asked partner Maria Baez out for pizza during the episode, but their relationship was not further explored.
Donnie Wahlberg Says Tom Selleck Teared Up Watching Blue Bloods' Final Scene
While seeing one of the Reagans in Boston will be new for Blue Bloods fans, Wahlberg has fond memories of growing up in the city with his famous family.
“It’s going to be a journey and a process for him,” Wahlberg said about continuing the story of his beloved character in a new city. “He’s with the audience who says, ‘I can’t imagine Danny would move to Boston,’ well, neither can he. He’s with you. He’s going to have to figure this out because it’s a dramatic life change.”
